I am almost 5 yrs post op on my right hip. At 6 months post op, I started back with a little running, never intending on getting back to the 20-25 miles a week I had been doing before the pain stopped me. Dr Clarke told me some running is ok but progress slowly and don’t do marathons. It felt so good to run pain free and as time went … Read the rest

I had a C+ installed in my left hip by the fabulous Dr Harold Boyd on 10/10/02 at the ripe old age of 40.
After over 5 years, I don’t even think about having had a hip replacement.
I was playing golf at about 6 weeks & recovered nearly fully by 12 weeks.
Speaking of golf, I play 2-3 times a week & rarely use a cart. … Read the rest
August 23, 2008 I’m on day 13 with a Cormet hip resurface RH from Dr Boyd in Salem OR.Very impressive and experienced team of staff with around 6oo HR under there belt. I did my due diligence before embarking on this resurface by meeting surgeons from OR,WA,CA and Australia.
My recovery seems to be going backwards, I’m relying on crutches, couldn’t imagine a step without them and oxyconitn and viocodin … Read the rest
Shelby’s Frist BHR January 2012 Six days post op with the first of two BHR’s and I’m sad to report I’m not going to join the ranks of those who trekked in Nepal during their first week with the new hardware. Today my goals are more modest – three sets of low level PT exercises, a few laps around the homestead with my crutches, figuring out how to put my … Read the rest
I would like to relate my most recent experience with Dr. Peter Brooks at the Cleveland Clinic:
Some Background. I am a 65 year old male who has always been in good shape. Years of running and racquetball began to take their toll about 10 years ago but as long as I felt that my activities of daily life were not severely compromised I continued to postpone the inevitable. That … Read the rest
First Hip Resurfacing – RBHR May 5, 2010 Dr. Brooks
Here is my story about my hip resurfacing. It starts in October of 2006 when I went to a local doctor in southwest Michigan and had my right hip X-rayed. I wanted to make sure it was arthritis and not something else. He said it was indeed arthritis in my hip and I would have to have it replaced in … Read the rest
I had a RBHR by Dr. Brooks on February 25, 2009 at Euclid Hospital-Cleveland Clinic. It has been about 8 months since my surgery and I divided my experience into categories of chronological order. Before sharing my experience, I would like you to know that I am completely satisfied with the procedure and would recommend Dr. Brooks for anyone considering a hip resurfacing.
Background I was diagnosed with arthritis in … Read the rest
I’m about 6 weeks post-op and 41 years of age. I also have a stationery bike in the basement, hooked up to the computrainer. They say to ride without resistance for 6 weeks, but honestly, that is pretty lame. What resistance level did you use and did you work up a pretty good sweat? I need to really work some of the fat I’ve gained in the last six weeks!… Read the rest
April 8, 2010 – 46yr old scheduled 4/28 with Dr. Brooks in Cleveland. I will be traveling roughly 5 hours from SoCen PA. I am a nurse and cracking myself up that I have not met him but feel completely ready to GO! I feel like this is the right surgery for me and need to thank a patient I did a stress test on, who first mentioned this surgery … Read the rest
Dr. Brooks performed my LBHR last October 2010 and I am very pleased with the results. I never experienced any pain post surgery: In the hospital, the nurses would ask periodically throughout the day what my pain level was, on a scale of 1 to 10, and I don’t recall ever getting above a 2. I stopped taking percocet (or whatever the prescription pain reliever was) after less than a … Read the rest
Update February 23, 2017
5 years a bi-lat bhr as of today, all observations on earlier post above apply, clearly a success for me.
Update October 5, 2016
5 years yesterday on my left BHR, doing extremely well. No issues with the implants, walk 20-25 miles/week motivated by keeping weight off to extend hip life, which has improved overall health measurably. Walk at just under 4mph consistently on hilly terrain. … Read the rest
August 19, 2010 I am 3 weeks post op and doing great. (RBHP Dr.Brooks) Pain is very minimal. Last night I slept for the first time w/o any pain meds which I was taking mainly to battle my distaste for sleeping on my back all night. I can even lie on the surgical side now but would still rather not. Walking nicely w/ one or two crutches. My only real … Read the rest
