1 week ago today, I went into Stepping Hill Hospital, to have my hopeful hip-resurfacing operation.
I'd phoned the ward the day before as instructed in the letter, to make sure that everything was still okay, and was told so, and told not to come in till the morning of the operation.
I arrived at a little after 8 am, I was told between 7.30 and 8, but the traffic on the road to the hospital can be a bit weird on the best of days.
Once I got to the right ward for waiting, and got myself settled into a "fairly comfy" reclining chair, the nurse in charge of that area went to check that I was still down to be second for being operated on, and can back and said I was, and that it would be around lunch time.
Around 10.30, the nurse came and said, that some one would be down to collect me, and I thought yay, I was taken to patient reception, basically a holding area for patients just before they go to the operating theatre...
I spent 30 mins or so in there, then I was wheeled into the anethesist room, and by 11.30 which was the last time I saw a clock before going under, and that's all I remember, till I woke up, when I was told they had just finished and were about to wheel me out into the recovery area.
I'll summarise the next couple of days, the first day after the op, they got me up and out of bed, and into a chair by the bed with a walking frame, which wasn't to bad, on the second day they gave me some elbow crutches, which I got used to quite quickly. By lunch tie on the 3rd day, I was pretty mobile, and they were happy to discharge me, I didn't really want to spend the weekend in hospital if I could help it. And i was home by 6 pm.
Everything was fine, till my right ankle started swelling up. That was due to me sitting down for to long in a chair, which no one had warned me about while the hosp.
So I'm now bed bound, though getting up every so often, but is kind of a pain, because while I'm on break from University, I still have things I could be working on.
Oh well, I'll post an update next week, unless something comes up.
