July 21, 2018 – Back on the Mats
May 3, 2018 – I’m in good health and busy with a garden project, rebuilding a garden wall. Still competing in motorsport, 3rd in the ACSMC class championship with my 1973 Alfa Romeo GTAm. Still have the STYLUS 231BHP racer but not competing with it right now . Both hips functioning well, one at 18yrs, the other 3yrs now, thanks to Mr McMinn and team.
Regards , Rob
According to The Big Show, who opted for a hip resurfacing over a full out replacement to preserve the possibility of returning the ring, he is faster now, has better range of motion, and has more to give in the squared circle.
“Right now, [my] quality of life is really good. There’s no stiffness. My range of motion is ridiculous.” Big Show said, “I’m not done in the ring yet. Hell, I’m 380 lbs. I feel now, especially in my hip, has more range of motion now, and I’m faster than I moved in 17 [or] 18 years. I wrestled with Fit Finlay a little bit at WrestleMania. I got in there and rolled around the ring with Fit and the doctor. And Fit was laughing. He was like, ‘you’re fast again’, which made me feel good because my mobility is back and I had … Read the rest
Andy Murray will return to action on 11 June at a low-level grass tournament in the Netherlands…
…His return ends months of agonising over his future. He was due to come back in Brisbane, before the Australian Open, but withdrew at the last minute and headed for Melbourne, where his trusted friend and renowned surgeon, John O’Donnell, performed the hip resurfacing operation, where a small sleeve is placed over the joint.
Four days after the operation, Murray was walking freely in the streets of Melbourne when he bumped into members of the British media. There was a brief exchange of pleasantries and the player who has come through many crises might have wondered if he would ever again have good news to relate.… Read the rest

On 30th July 1997, Mr McMinn performed the world’s first Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) operation. Two decades later, we are celebrating the success of this bone-conserving procedure, pioneered by Mr McMinn, with the people whose lives have been changed by BHR surgery.
The video and photos that patients have sent in to celebrate 20 Years of Hip Resurfacing has been eye opening and amazing. We couldn’t include everyone in our longer in depth video so we created this shorter and snappier piece to give you a feel of the immense variety of activities that our patients enjoy after their procedures.

In 2015 it had become quite apparent that I would need hip replacement or hip resurfacing on my right hip. I had been training in karate for 44 years and lifting weights/bodybuilding for 42 years…
…Meeting Dr. Boettner at his Manhattan office was all I needed to make up my mind as to how to proceed…
…So it was decided that he would perform the surgery on March 26, 2016. Today is March 24th, 2017 as I wanted to be able to fully evaluate my condition after one year…
…Today, I am happy to report, that I am training pretty hard at the school, dramatically increased my stability, and I’m even sparring with my black belts. For you runners out there, I’m able to run, and even do wind sprints, with no pain.… Read the rest
My name is Zak Belkebir, and I am 54 years old. I have been very active all my life and competed in every sport I had a chance to participate in. I played competitive soccer for over 30 years, and when I couldn’t play anymore I picked up tennis and started running short and mid-distance races. I also go to the gym at least 5 times a week…
…Things came to a sudden halt in 2015..
…I scheduled my first visit with Dr. Su. He was very clear and thorough. I felt very comfortable and was convinced that he is going to be my doctor…
…May 5th, 2017 – The surgery was a huge success. I stayed at the hospital for one night and walked out with nothing but a cane – amazing! I started home physical therapy on day 3. I went to the … Read the rest
I first met with Dr. Nawabi in July 2016 following an MRI that indicated I had a severely torn left hip labrum…
…Upon meeting with Dr. Nawabi and having him review my MRI and X-rays, he concluded that I was a good candidate for hip resurfacing surgery. I was hoping to return 100% to running, playing soccer, and playing golf and the hip resurfacing procedure would make that possible…
…Fast forward to my surgery on December 21, 2016. Every element of the experience at HSS from the pre-surgery consult, to the pre-surgery prep, to the surgery itself, to the 36 hour recovery period at HSS was fantastic. ..
…I started running again in early September, and playing soccer in October. My cardio was solid due to the spinning classes, however I’m still getting my ball skills/agility back since I essentially went 18 months without … Read the rest
December 4, 2017 – Fifth year still had some nice improvement (believe it or not).
This also marks my fifth season back playing soccer. Every season I’ve had little nags here and there (Achilles, hamstrings, calfs, etc) but the hip has been injury free. When my conditioning wanes a bit in off season I can get that “achy” feeling after an hour or so playing. But if I use the foam roller a couple of times a week it really helps with that.
My local physio got me using a kettlebell but for only one of the exercises -the basic kettlebell swing. He coached my technique and this really helped my hip function with both strength and range of motion.
Well, that’s about it. Five great years so far. … Read the rest
