Pro BMXer Kevin Robinson had a hip resurfacing procedure performed on October 16, 2013. This video goes into the operating room to tell his story. This contains some extreme images of the surgical procedure and his riding.
The video is produced by Scott Moroney. A special thanks to Dr. Bob Marchand for opening up this new world to our camera.
I am almost exactly two years out on my right hip resurface and one year out on the left and all is beyond well!
Running regularly; I did a 6.4 mile leg of a marathon relay 2 weeks ago (somehow got all the hills, even though I was the oldest on the team … hmmm) and did that in 55 minutes with no issues except pouring rain Felt great.… Read the rest

I just wanted to check in and show my recent yoga photo. I’ve come so far in the past two years and most can’t believe I am a bilateral hip patient. I recently completed my 200 hour yoga teacher certification. My ROM and flexibility is really great and is getting better every day. I see constant improvement!! In this photo I am hopeful one day the hands will grasp the foot….just need a little more openness in the hips and to lengthen the psoas a bit more.
So glad to have my life back!! Getting my hips done was the best thing I’ve done for myself.
I’ve done triathlons for the past 20 years. I had a bicycle crash about 20 yrs ago which started my OA on my right hip. I had to stop running about 4 yrs ago and decided to get RBHR this year, 2008. I had my pedal stoke analyzed in March 08 and I was pedaling 60% with my left and 40% with my right.
I first heard about the BHR from Floyd Landis after the tour in 06. I consulted with Scott Tinley quite a bit before opting for Dr. Rogerson to do my BHR.

I’m two weeks post op and I would suggest to go into surgery as fit as possible without putting yourself in pain. I can only speak for myself but I was teaching 5-8 spinning classes a week and riding outside on the weekends for 1-2hrs up some good climbs. I … Read the rest
I used Dr. Rector in Boulder. I feel the BHR surgery which occurred on April 22, 2010 gave me a
2nd chance at an athletic life. It used to take me 30 or more
seconds to stand up out of a chair. Since my surgery I have been
using the stationary bike for about 1/2 hour and working out on the
elliptical for about 20 mins. 2X per week and balancing on the bosu
ball for a few minutes on each leg during my workouts.
At 10 months out from my surgery I began playing soccer again. I am
a 58 year old skinny Italian soccer player. I have played soccer at
least once a week for 40 years without a break unless I was injured
or on vacation. I am not a great player, but a great lover of the

My surgery date with Dr. Amstutz was 8/29/06.
I had been in considerable pain for four years
before the surgery, but thought it was do to
spinal stenosis. I saw Dr. Amstutz after Kaiser
diagnosed my right hip to be bone on bone
osteoarthritis and would need a replacement and
of course, to wait as long as possible. I met
Calvin Jung , an Amstutz bilateral through a
mutual friend and the hip resurfacing seemed the
way to go.
I had a great experience with the surgery.
Dr. Amstutz and this was, I might add, the first
time I have had any surgery or been in a
hospital other than to deliver my son in the
I had poor bone density and Amstutz was
concerned their condition might be too soft to
do the resurface. He said being a dancer for
years, my bones were big and probably had … Read the rest
