Dave Phelps Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Mont 2011
Dave Phelps Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Mont 2011
I had my right hip resurface February 23, 2011 by Dr. Mont in Baltimore, MD. I was 39 yrs. old at the time and dysplasia was the diagnosis. It has been a total success, I am doing things again I truly never thought possible. About 6 months post op, I started doing CrossFit workouts. This has been a complete game changer for me. When I started CrossFit (11/11) I weighed 198lbs, in January (1/12) I changed my diet to a Paleo model and began losing weight. I got down to 176lbs (at 6’2″) which is less than I weighed in high school. Over the last year I focused on my strength training and have been able to put on almost 17 lbs. of lean weight.
I just finished my first sprint triathlon, and will be competing in some CrossFit competitions next month.
My question, do you have other athletes who are active in CrossFit? Have they experienced any limitations? I do get concerned when I am lifting heavy weights, either squatting or deadlifting. I noticed that one of your featured athletes was able to dead lift 507lbs 14 months post op. That is awesome.
I am back to playing competitive volleyball. I can not dunk a basketball like I could ten years ago, but I can grab the rim again. We do max box jump testing with Crossfit and I was able to land on a 48″ box. Again, I am so happy with where I am after the surgery that I was curious if there were a network of others with very active life styles.
I used your site when I was looking at options for what I would do with my hip. Thanks so much for maintaining the site.
