David Stableforth talks about his right Birmingham Hip Resurfacgin (BHR) operation performed in 1998 by Mr McMinn. David is a semi-retired consultant physician and has explored a range of sporting activities since his surgery, including cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

David, a semi-retired Consultant Physician from Coventry explains, “My arthritis in the hip came on following a sporting injury in my teens but didn’t become manifest until my mid 50s. I put up with arthritis, which became increasingly painful, until 1997. I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t live my life properly at all.”
Desperate for pain relief, David finally gave in to advice from friends and colleagues and saw Mr McMinn about a Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR). He had a right-sided BHR in February 1998, and recalls: “Within a short time it had completely revolutionised my life! I walk normally and most people when I tell them don’t believe I’ve had a hip replacement.”
David’s delighted with his BHR and has pursued a number of sports following surgery. He recently completed the Land’s End to John o’ Groats cycle and says: “I’ve always been an active person. I’ve had no symptoms from this hip whatsoever. I can do all the activities I ever used to do and I still walk and cycle without any limitation, pain or discomfort.”
