Gregg Dean story about Hip Resurfacing Dr. Bala 2006
Age: 60 Address: Jacksonhole, Wyoming state, United States of America. I received my Birmingham Hip surface of the right hip on January 7, 2006. I was suffering from arthritis of the right hip. For me this meant I had a serious limp caused by hip pain that limited my daytime activities; this hip pain was so bad and continuous that it made it difficult for me to even sleep at night. My orthopedic surgeon in the US advised me that ultimately I would need a hip replacement; that it would cost $35000; and further I would need to cease all snow skiing, hiking, or wading in river type activities for the remainder of my life. soooo… I researched my options on the internet and found the Resurfacing procedure and the fact that it was performed in India by Dr.Bala subramanian at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital. I chose the Hip Resurfacing center in Coimbatore because it was cheaper than everyone else and it promised better results than the procedure recommended by my US orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Bala said the cost would be $ 5500 and I would be snow skiing in 6 weeks. The cost for a Hip resurfacing is a minimum of $ 26000 in the US , $ 20,000 in Great Britain, $14000 in Belgium, Bottom line, Dr. Bala promised and delivered better results for less money than anyone else I contacted. Best of all I was able to pay for his services with the money I did not give to an American insurance company.Dr. Balasubramanian did a very good job. I have been taken care of from the moment I arrived. The team here is made up of true professionals but so friendly and approachable you immediately feel like a member of the family. The results were that the pain was eliminated and my physical activities (snow skiing, hiking, trout fishing) have been resumed at the same level of intensity as before I became disabled with arthritis. It took 2 months to completely recover; but I was walking on the third day after surgery and snow skiing 30 days after surgery. Of course if I had to do it again I would do exactly what I did in India with Dr.Bala. India is a godsend for people like myself who are looking for affordable healthcare. In the future, I will outsource my medical procedures to India and elsewhere in the the world and I predict that my fellow US “baby boomers” will do the same. cordial saludos, Gregg Dean
