I am one month out of bilateral hr with Dr DeSmet. Can't say enough about the quality of patient centred care.  Wondering how soon I can do stairs without crutches. I am feeling pretty balanced and strong. I am a lot more tired than I expected I would be. Wondering if this is normal. This site helped me get my bearings. Want to say thanks!

Wondering if any of you bilats out there noticed unevenness in your gait. My right leg tends to swing out when I am fatigued. Thinking at four weeks out I need to work on adductor strength?

April 7, 2016

I am week eleven post bilateral HR with Dr DeSmet. I am able to walk up to four km and have no more pain in the hip joints. I have muscle pain around the right hip and down the inside of the legs (adductors), sometimes quad pain. Dr. DeSmet said the pain will go away in time as my muscles adjust to the new orientation. Have any of you experienced this? I feel anxious at times wondering if there is a problem with the placement of the Conserve Plus. I have read many accounts of people who are surfing etc at the 3 month point.

I am a steady type of guy but once in a while I wonder if I am off course. Not many Canadians are lucky enough to have the HR option. I appreciate being able to share the experience through this forum. I have lined up a very good physio and I hit the pool today. Felt great.

It took me about three months to lose the daytime fatigue.

I am 5 months post op bilateral with Dr. deSmet. At three months I went to PT hoping to improve my gait and to reduce adductor pain. She put me on a pretty intense strengthening program and, although I feel stronger, I am experiencing adductor pain which is effecting my sleep and my general functioning. I expressed my concern to the physio and she assessed my range of motion. My external rotation is 35 degrees and thirty one degrees. I asked myself why it took her two months to look at ROM.
Dr. D looked at my 3 month X-rays , said both hips look great, and he suggested that physio would not help, that time and walking would resolve the muscular pain.

June 29, 2016

After two weeks of rest and NSAIDs I am still having extreme groin and adductor soreness making activities of daily living and sleep difficult. I have been told these strains can take 8 weeks or longer to heal. In the meantime I am laying off long walks, have dropped the intensive physio that started the problem. I am holding on to the hope that my adductors are having to adjust to hips that swing properly. I think I need to hear that it gets better. Sleep deprivation and lack of exercise have me chewing the furniture. Would appreciate some support as I experience another sleepless night. I hit the six month mark next week.

Dr thinks that I jumped into a high volume, high intensity strengthening program while my glutes were still very weak, resulting in very aggravated adductor muscles and fascia. Even gentle activity flares them up so I can't sleep. So...I am going to take it easy for a month, sticking to activity of daily living, icing , massage therapy, with no other exercise.  It is likely that my glutes have forgotten how to fire. So I will have to start over with very gradual strengthening once the pain is gone. I have been cautioned not to do anything that will engage the core and adductors till the pain is gone. Dr DeSmet agrees and recommends gradual return to walking to retrain my legs.
