3 year check up results
« on: July 04, 2012, 10:03:26 AM »
Hi,

It's been three years now since I had my op, and had my check up with the surgeon.

Due to the type I had, the procedure has changed, I had the one that was recalled.

The xrays came back okay, but they took some blood for testing and will be having an MRI scan.

I take it you had an ASR or Durom device? I hope everything comes back ok! There are still some ASR's and Duroms that are functioning fine so fingers crossed your one of those!

Hi, thanks for checking in!

The recalled ASR in the national registries had cumulative revisions at 13% at 10 years. What I heard of the reason was that placement was more difficult and that caused issues since the geometry of the ASR was more difficult to place properly.

That still meant that 87% of the ASR implants were successful over 10 years, so if your xrays are OK, hopefully everything is in good shape.

How are the hips feeling?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in reply.

I had the ASR, so far everything has been fine.

I've been doing a lot more walking just recently, and it's been fine, had more problems with an old ankle problem than with the hip.

While the ankle thing is just pain, virtually and literally, it's better than having to deal with both.

I'll post more when I know the result of the MRI.

Hopefully your ASR will be fine. Im sure not all of them will be problematic.

Hi,

I thought I'd post an update, had consultation following my MRI scan.

The Good news is that everything was normal, though there was an anomally, but turns out that its something that appear on MRI scans.

So nothing to worry about, till next year.
