Title: 3 weeks post op
Post by: cindy26 on April 10, 2009, 10:13:58 AM
I just wanted to thank everyone on here that helped me out with questions, answer, advice, and support.  I was unable to have my hip resurfaced and had to have a total hip replacement.  I had this done 3 weeks ago at Duke University with Dr Attarian.  He did a Metal on Metal Depuy anterior laterial approach with a 6-8 inch incision.  He ended up having to put a screw in the acetubulum cup to prevent loosing (which I am very high risk for).  At my 3 week post op visit, everything looks great.  I have great range of motion and am able to work with pt starting next week to get down to one crutch and 2 weeks after that a cane.  I am able to lift me like to a march postion and for the first time my toes are able to point inward instead of stuck outward.  I still have alot of pain in the morning and in the late afternoon.  If my day was from 10-7 it would be great, it takes me that long to get moving.   If I could sleep at night that would be great too.  Last night was the first night I slept decent.   I have been staying with my mother when my husband is out of town, not so much because I can't take care of myself its just I can't my 2 yrs old.  Last night I was able to sleep at home and I think thats because I was in my own bed.  All in all i would say i am doing well.

Thanks
Cindy

Good to hear that you're doing well Cindy. Sounds like you're well on the path to recovery. I think the first 3 weeks are the most difficult then it's all uphill. Don't be surprised to make a few leaps forward then a couple of steps backwards now and again. Just do things at your pace and don't overdo it. Good luck with the rest of your recovery.  :)

Cindy,

That is great news, I am very happy that things are looking up for you.  I remember how upset you were just a few months ago but what a great turn a round you've made.  Soon the pain will be a fleeting memory and you'll be able to do things that you have not been able to do in years.

I went out and bought a boat, yep, an 18 foot runabout ski boat.  I can't wait to give the hip a workout on skiis this Summer, although here in Pgh the rivers do not warm up to well after Memorial day.

Keep us posted for sure.

I have never skied in my entire life.  My legs were too externally rotated and i would end up into a split before I knew it.  I just can't wait to enjoy my swimming pool we had put in last year.  I would go to swim but I was scared that if my son would fall in that my hip would not allow me to get to him.  I wouldn't swim with just us there, someone had to be there all of the time.  This year maybe not.  I am seeing some improvement already and looking foward to a much brighter and pain free future.  Hope you have fun this summer on your skis.  I don't think I will be able to do that until I get the other hip replaced because it is still externally rotated it don't hurt though.  Good luck and thanks

Hi Cindy

I wanted to Thank You for posting your story for others to read.

I also want to wish you good luck with the rest of your recovery.  I hope it will get better for you soon.  Sorry that you had a difficult time early in your recovery.

Please keep in touch. We welcome to have you post here even if you received a MOM THR.  Not everyone can have a resurfacing and we understand that.  What counts is that you will be out of pain and active again when you recovery.  Your MOM THR will serve you well.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Pat
