Hi all today I am going to a "specialist" in problem hips. After reading the comments about the metal ions, i wonder if thats whats causing my problem. I had xrays taken and they said about what appears to be a heterotopic calcification around the hip. Is this related? I will check back to the board in the morning to see if anyone has any tips to share with my doctor, he is a new doctor to me. But I see people runing marathons and stuff on their resurfaced hips, and I cant even do any exercise without pain, and pain when i walk to much etc, something is wrong. I need someone to get down to the root, but I feel also like I am a guinea pig, nobody knows "why" i have hip pain still.
Hi
I am not a doctor or medically trained. I wish I were and could help you, but it seems even the doctors are having a difficult time.
I don't know anything about heterotopic calcification. I don't remember reading many stories about people with that problem. Hopefully the new doctor will have some suggestions for you. I am sorry I don't have any.
I am very sorry that you are having problems. Not many people have serious problems, but occasionally a few do and you are one of the unfortunate ones. I hope they can find a solution for you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

Well I went to the doctor today, and looks like im going to get a total hip implant. He told me a few things. My cup has not been situated correctly and that is why I am having pain, walking, or leaning. It is about 1/4 inch off, not much but enough that the implant hits my bone. Second, my femur neck is very large, and so I don't get much range of motion. On total hip they remove that problem that is what they cut off, so I will have much greater range of motion. Thirdly, the pin on the resurfaced hip is cemented in place, while in a total hip it is not. So taken this all in stride, I guess I am going to go through the pain of another hip procedure, hopefully this one will give me the alleviation of pain I sought in resurfacement. He said some take, and some don't but at some time or another the cement is gonna break down and you will get pain, so there you have it, many tests ahead such as a bone scan and a WBC test UGH i hate those, but they are necessary.
Hi
I am sorry to hear that you will require a revision. As you know, a MOM THR is also a good solution to hip pain and problems. The only problem is you have to face another major surgery to get one.
Please keep in touch and let us know how things are going for you. I know we all wish it would have been different for you, but sometimes things happen beyond our control or the doctors control.
Good Luck with your upcoming tests.
