Title: surgery scheduled
Post by: mmckeone on September 30, 2009, 06:37:30 PM
I just scheduled resurfacing surgery with Dr James Rector in Boulder CO for November 25.  I have almost 2 months to wait is there any suggestions or advice that anyone has for someone preparing for surgery?

I kept working out up to surgery and my recovery has gone very good (at 19 days post op now). So, if you are actve now keep doing as much as possible up to surgery.  The better shape you are in especially the leg muscles the easier your recovery will be.

The only other thing is to move up the surgery date! I am sure you have good reason(s) for waiting. But the sooner you have it done the sooner you will be back to doing the things you like to do pain free.

Congratulations! Buy all of the stuff on your home supplies list (raised toilet seat, sock thingie, etc.) and arrange clear walking paths around your house :)

Dr. Rector is awesome! Just keep exercising right up until the surgery - makes the recovery so much faster.

USE THE ICE MACHINE when you get home. Religiously.

I went to the gym right up to the day before my op. I'm 4 weeks post op today. I have no real pain. Scar has healed well. I have no need to use a crutch or cane. I am cycling 80km per week on my stationary bike. I'm hoping to return to the gym next week.

I have been working part time (2 1/2 days per week) since 14th September. I will be returning to working full time next Monday. I have been driving just over 1 week now.

That said, at 42 years of age I should make a smooth recovery!!!!!!
