Title: Information about Dr. Wallskog

Hi,

I am a 49yr. old peri-menopausal female who has been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis of my left hip. I have been limping around for 9 mos. since I am in school full time. I will be graduating so I am hoping to get this hip taken care of and resume a normal, painfree (or less painful), active life. I am planning on seeing Dr. Wallskog for possible hip resurfacing. I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has had a hip resurfacing performed by him. I visited a surgeon who said he did resurfacing but he was quick to point out that even if my bone density was good he may opt for THR during my surgery if he didn't like what he saw. That really scared me! Any information would be appreciated.

Hi Donna

I don't know a lot about Dr. Wallskog.  I am going to post your message on the main discussion board so any other Wallskog patient can talk to you.  I wish I could tell you more, but just don't know much about him.  Be sure to ask him all of your questions and ask what the odds are that you will get a resurfacing vs a THR.  Some of the less experienced surgeons will give you a THR if the resurfacing surgery looks difficlt.  Many don't like to do women over 50.  So make sure you know how he feels.  If he is iffy about it, look for another really experienced surgeon.  Most people end up traveling to have their resurfacings.
