Title: Popping on hip joint
Post by: Mike B. on August 05, 2010, 08:21:50 PM
This is a great website and I wish I would have searched and found it prior to surgery.  I was/am a marathoner and triathlete who wore out his hip 30 years ahead of its time.  Being only 48 I didn't want to give up everything I love so when my orthopedic surgeon told be about the resurfacing option I thought it was the perfect solution for me and that it would allow me to remain active.  I want to continue doing as many activities as I can (cycle, hike, ski, golf and maybe even some light running) so that is why I had the resurfacing  procedure done.

I am now 10 months post op and am experiencing pain while doing certain activities.  Hiking and running are very painful but cycling is not painful unless it is a very steep climb.  I am also experiencing a popping in the hip joint when I bend over to tie my shoes or pick something up off the ground.

My doctor has retired so I went to see another doctor who works for the same group on the pain and popping.  He stated to me that the device (Styker) wasn't fitting correctly and that was what was causing the pain and popping.  He also stated there has been a history of failures with the Stryker device vs the BHP device for which he is certified.  He stated that my only option is a complete hip replacement.

I am going to get a second and maybe a third opinion.  What I wanted to ask is if there is anyone else out there that has or is experiencing the same things that I am with the pooping and pain?  Has anyone else heard the same things that I heard about the Stryker device?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Popping yes but never with any pain.  I had the BHR so I can't address the Stryker.  Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble.  This surgery has made all the difference in the world for me, in a positive way.
