Title: Can I use a hot tub
Post by: EMP on November 21, 2010, 07:59:41 PM
I am 4 weeks post op from having a bilateral BHR with Dr. Su at HHS.  I'm progressing at a good rate and was wondering if anyone has heard anything negative about using a hot tub.  I usually keep it at ~102 degrees and like to soak for long periods of time.  Seems it would help loosen up the muscles and ligaments, and I could even do some stretching exercise in it.  But I'm wondering if there is any harm in doing this.

Check with Dr. Su, but most doctors want to make sure that your incision has TOTALLY healed without any scabs at all.

You don't want an infection, be careful.

At the villa in Gent, among other facilities, there was a sauna next to the pool. Evelyne said categorically that the patients should not use it, as heat would not be good for the incision to heal.

I agree - check with Dr. Su or his office first.  Find out when you can use the hot tub and be safe.  I did water walking in a therapy pool at 6 weeks post op which was about 96 degrees.  The walking and stretching and exercises helped a lot.
