I was just diagnosed with Aspetic necrosis after weeks of trying to find out what was wrong with my hip and why was I in so much pain. Doc didn't want to move on HR because she thought it was an infection. Now hopefully they will schedule me for surgery soon. Anyone else have this issue pre-op?
Ed -
When I was going through the process of getting ready for surgery, my x-rays showed potential avascular necrosis, but weren't definitive (other orthos had said the same thing 5 years earlier). When Dr. Klug got in there and looked at my femoral head, it DID have AN on the surface. Luckily for me, when he chipped it away, he found healthy, bleeding bone, and he was able to proceed as planned.
From the beginning, however, he stated that while his intention was to perform a resurfacing, he would not hesitate to move to a THR if it was the best thing for me.
Good luck (and check your PMs - I just saw the one you sent me... :) )
I'm glad you finally have an answer. I don't know about this problem and what effect it might have on RS. I think this is a question for the big boys. Go to Dr. DeSmet's site and leave him an email. He will answer though he may take a few days. McMinn might be another expert who will give you some info.
Good Luck to you!!
