Hello to all. Having a Left BHR by Dr. Rector in Boulder Co. 4/01/11. I'm ready for some rehab pain to replace what I have now. The great info and stories on this site have helped me very much. Thanks!
You will do well. I am seven days post op and the worst thing is being stuck in the house. I so desperately want to go places but don't want to do too much too soon. Get you some good dvds, video games, someone to keep you company. Keeping the mind busy is my hardest challenge.
Ed
Hi Krunch,
enjoy a rest and dont rush ANYTHING post op, best of luck to you ...
Krunch,
You'll do great. I just had my 3-week checkup with Dr. Rector on Wednesday. Whole process was pretty smooth, making progress every day, down to cane and trying to wean from that. I go back to work Monday. Best of luck.
Bill
Best of luck! You'll be like a new person soon!
Good luck. You'll feel a huge differece after.
If you are into DVD movies I just saw the whole Prison Break series. It was a whole lot of fun and a great way to break up the monotony of the recovery process. Trying out TrueBlood now. Stack you DVDs
You're almost there. Good luck!!
Good luck Krunch!
Hi Krunch,
Good luck to you on April 1st, what a day to pick. You are just setting your self up for jokes with Dr Rector, lucky for you I hear he has a dry demanor.
I am scheduled for May 11th with Dr Rector, do you know what # HR you will be?
Best of luck and keep us posted.
Lori.
Good luck, Krunch! Keep us posted.
You will do great! I think you will be pleasantly surprised that while you have discomfort after surgery, it's nothing like the bone on bone arthritis pain you have now. I was in less overall pain after surgery than I was before. At five weeks post op.... I feel like a new person!!!
If you wake up after surgery and the doctor tells you they put your leg back on backwards..... Remember it's April Fools day!
Thanks everyone!
Krunch,
Go for it and feel good about it. I am 5 days post op and even with the pain and inconvenience for the moment I feel great with my decision. Be prepared mentally to endure whatever comes your way, it all passes quickly and you will be so much better for it.
Good luck!
Good Luck Krunch!!! You will do well. We are hear if you need us.
Hi Krunch,
Today is your day. Did anyone play any jokes on you? Hope all is well and you are healing up well. I spoke with Stacey today to make a change for my Pre-op appt, it is coming up.
KUP Lori
Krunch, did u go out running and forgot about us and your post op restrictions? Just kidding. Take it easy
Surgery went fine yesterday. Pain is not bad at all, just stiffness and limited range of motion. Walked the hall (with walker) without problems. Everyone here at Boulder Community Hospital is great and I'm looking forward to heading home to Wyoming tomorrow morning. Thanks everyone for all of the positive support.
Craig
Great! You will get better and better day by day.... I'm 5 weeks post op and recovery has been gradual but steady. Every so often I'd find myself more sore one day than the day before and it felt like a small setback, so if that happens don't be discouraged. I think it's normal. Overall, if I mapped my progress by the week, instead of by the day, it was all progress.
You will be walking, zero assistance, no crutches no cane soon enough. Take it easy, listen to your body, and good luck!
It will be great to be pain free!
good stuff Craig, welcome to the world of no hip pain ...
take it slow, and heal well ...
Krunch Craig,
Welcome to the Hippy world! A slap on the back for you!
Steve
Hey man, take it easy. "The journy of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Congrats.
Ed
Happy to hear all is well. Bso when u check out you are driving home?
Hope someone is gonna drive you.;).
Good luck and keep us posted.
I had my wife drive me home from the hospital. That may have been the scariest part of the whole ordeal!
I got clearance to drive at 2 weeks. But I don't feel comfortable. Going to give myself another week to heal. Only problem phys therplace is 40 min away. That sucks
We left Boulder yesterday with the wife at the wheel. A light rain turned to snow and it just got worse. South of Cheyenne Wy. a ten car pile up had us searching for a motel and we spent the night in Cheyenne as they closed the interstate. Looks good outside now, so we're heading for home. Only 280 miles left to go.
Craig
Love the traveloge, Krunch - how are you feeling?
Glad to hear that you are not driving ;),happy to hear that you are nearly home. Please tell me how was sitting in the car? When I check out of BCH, I will be traveling 3 hours to home sweet home.
Lori
It took us about 8 hours to get home (we had quite a few short breaks), but the trip was better than anticipated. The stiffness is much worse than the pain for me. Just glad to be home and start rehab.
Craig
Krunch,
Glad you made it home safe. Take it easy.
Hi Krunch,
So I think you are one week out? How are you doing? Thinking of you.

Doing great so far. Post-op day 9 now. I used crutches one day and a cane since. Only use the cane outside and I'm fine without it inside. Off the meds, but I do take 1 tylenol at night. I'm very fortunate and happy with things up to now. PT three times a week. My physical therapist travels all over. She's lives in Glenwood Springs! When do you go in?
Craig
I go in next Month on May 11th. I am getting very excited and everything is going forward.
What PT are you using. That is awesome that she lives in Glenwood Springs, that is where I live. Amazing that you were down to a cane already. Thanks for the update it really calms my nerves. When did you get off the pain meds?
Lori
Hi Krunch,
We had our surgery on the same day and my rehab is pretty close to yours, though it was only this evening that I started walking around the house without a cane. It feels great to be on my own two legs again!

My PT's name is Carol (don't know her last). She fills in and only works 1 week per month, so I'll have a different one next week. I think by day 8 I was off meds except tylenol at night. Tried to ease off of them slowly as needed and it worked out good for me.
Craig
Hi Krunch
Glad to hear everything went well with your surgery. Always good to hear stories from Dr. Rector patients. I will gather your posts together to make a story later and post it on the main site under Dr. Rector patients. If you want to write a more detailed story, I would be happy to post that too.
Good Luck and take it easy. You will have plenty of time to test the hip this summer.

Good to hear all is going well for you. Even though I've got big plans to return to my active lifestyle, I've been humbled and really, really, appreciate doing regular daily activities.
Take care,
Craig
