April 19th marked my 1st yr with my new hip. My surgeon tells me everything is fine with my new hip ...Good news...but I am in pain. His sugestion is to go see a back specialist.
From the 6 week mark on I have not improoved in regards to a sore lower back..originating from my new left hip side. I first thought I needed time to heal...nope :( Then I went out & carefully chose a new bed since the morings were hell...no dif >:(. I wake up daily with a ceased back. Hot showers/bath & stretching slowly give me more flexibility(dejavu to pre surgery). As the day continues my flexibility gets as good as approx 75% :) but the pain never goes completely away & returns with a vengence EVERY SINGLE DAY >:(. Am I living Groundhog Day :D.
Seriously I am at a loss. My hunch is the osteoarthritis which deteriorated my hip is doing the same to my back.
Anyone out there in the same boat...or Iam I sinking alone lol
Tim
Who was your surgeon?
Your story sounds a bit familiar, but different:
I had surgery 6 months ago, everything went fine . Post op visits were great too. Did my rehab vigorously and still do , but my back was bugging me off and on for the last 2 months +.2 weeks ago I went to see a chiroprator and was lying on the floor within an hour with very serious back pain. I even took Oxycodone at 3 a.m. that night. It took 1 hour to kick in somewhat (mind you , I was off that stuff 3 days post op). I took various approaches since, acpuncture, massage . Nothing really worked. I saw a holistic/ somatic practioner and she told me that my body needs to relearn how to move normally and stop `proceting `. So I ramped up my streching and it seems that I get better ever so slowly.
This is what I fly by:
Observe your body. Figure out how you move. Where are you not in balance? Try to gently stretch and improve and take things in small steps. Learn when to push and when to rest. Callenge yourself . Or rest. It is your pace you need to find. Find help , if possible, but remember that nobody lives in your body but you, so ,again, you have to learn when to take advice and when to refuse it.
Good luck.
One thing I forgot:
The trigger point massage therapy workbook by Clair Davies appears to point into the right direction.... at least for me.
Once again , good luck for you
Check out 'massagenerd' on youtube, I've learnt a great deal from this guy.
Have you done PT? Maybe you can have some aid that way, since stretching seems to help.
I just want to encourage you to listen to others on the site, I have found stretching to be the best thing and critical to my recovery paths

I'm only five weeks out but I would give a big shout out to the trigger pointing suggestion by Matt and a PT that understands fascia and how to release it. I have been seeing a physio that practices connective tissue release as part of an overall management solution and have found it to be invaluable to me in surviving my pre-op condition with a quality of life that is better than a lot of other peoples with old eighty year old hips trying their best to hold back a 33 year old body. (hips as described by an emergency room doctor on seeing scans on an unrelated issue)
Since I've started up with my PT's again after handover from the hospital physios we have kicked off a recovery recovery program that includes trigger pointing and as I heal and progress further more will be able to be released (ie we are avoiding the would area for the moment). It does hurt during but the relief afterwards is truly amazing. I fee
As with anything to do with our bodies, make sure you find someone reputable and experienced as you don't want to hurt things further. If anyone is near Brisbane, Australia, I would definately recommend my guys at: www.bodyleadership.com.au (http://www.bodyleadership.com.au) for any recovery assistance and ongoing body maintenance.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.....muchly appreciated.
My plan is to focus on my stretching routine & work hard to hopefully not have to seek a surgeons help(last resort). The more active I am is when I feel the best, so I will keep on keeping on :)
Again, Thanks everyone

Hi there Tim,
Long time no hear!
My computer's been out of action for the past couple of weeks-(infiltrated with viruses!)
Sorry to hear of your back problems. I agree with all re- disciplined daily stretches and re-evaluating/adapting to your new body alignment. However, I see no harm in seeing a back specialist and getting an xray to check for OA or disc related issues.
Best Wishes
