Title: Fat fighters "Matt the pillar Miller"
Post by: Dannywayoflife on January 18, 2012, 06:37:44 AM
I was just Channel hopping last night and came accross "Fat Fighters" on channel 4(in the UK).
One of the trainers Matt Miller who is a bodybuilding champion talked about his own struggle with adversity and he said that he had a massive injury which he came back from (oh really i thought i had a torn muscle or ligament in my mind!) then he said i smashed my hip, at which my ears pricked up! He went on to say that he was a really young recipient of a Titanium THR. Now i was really impressed by this as we on this board are all aware of the draw backs of a THR in comparison to a HR device but to see some of the stuff that he was able to do really made me feel better about my shiney new friend! I mean if he can do all his stuff with the draw backs of a THR then i should be able to do even more with the advantages of my HR device!!!
Just made me feel a little better about things. Sorry Pat if ive posted in the wrong section.

There is a guy I train with that has had 2 total hip replacements and he doesn't have any restrictions.  He had his hip shattered at a Kung Fu Torn. when he was 13 and needed to have it replaced and had to have a revision on it in his 30's as well.  He's strong as an OX and doesn't seem to have any limitations.

Really!? What THR did he get do you know? It's nice to know "if" or HR's don't last forever then there could still be options out there for us

I'm not sure which hip he has but it's a traditional total hip and it's the 2nd one he's gotten.  He said he doesn't even notice it and hasn't had any issues at all.  He's a Pro-MMA Fighter and next weekend is even competing at a NAGA grappling event.  You would never know he's had it done and he's insanely strong.

That's pretty cool about the THR story.  I've heard of some folks that have gone way beyond where their surgeon said they should go with a THR.  Last spring I was out on the soccer pitch with my high school kids nursing my left HR and taking it really easy (Drs. Orders) and next to me was a 70 yr old Bolivian coach who had a THR about 5 years prior.  He was told by his surgeon not to run.  So he would sort of run, like a little light tippy-toe'd jog thing. He was inspiring.  Although my doc said I'd probably need a revision in short order if I had had a THR, thus the HR.  I'll stick with the numbers.

Pistol, would you be able to provide the figher's name? Maybe he's on the net.

Pete did you manage to find the mma fighters name? I'd love to check him out and see if there's any tape of him fighting out there.
