My husband had one hip resurfaced (very successfully) in Belgium by Dr. DeSmet five years ago, when no one was doing them here in Madison, WI. We paid out-of-pocket. My husband's insurance will pay for the procedure now in Madison (on his other hip) by Dr. David Wolff. His credentials look good but obviously he hasn't been doing the procedure very long. Has anyone had experience with Dr. Wolff? Would they recommend him? Or, are we better off returning to Belgium. Another surgeon, Rogerson, does have a great following in Madison, but it would be much cheaper for us to return to Belgium to a surgeon we trust, than remain in Madison (which is another sad commentary about our health system).
Hi
Welcome to Hip Talk. I am also a De Smet hippy.
I don't kow about Dr. Wolff. Dr. Rogerson has now done over 250 hip resurfacings. His patients are very happy with him and his Hip Hab recovery.
Here are a few Dr. Rogerson stories http://www.surfacehippy.info/hipstories.php#Dr.%20Rogerson (http://www.surfacehippy.info/hipstories.php#Dr.%20Rogerson)
How many hip resurfacings has Dr. Wolff done??
If I had insurance I might consider Dr. Rogerson. Of course, once a De Smet hippy - always a De Smet hippy. The cost has gone up considerably in the last several years with the dollar dropping in value.
I think it might be worth meeting with Dr. Rogerson to see how you feel about him. Can't you fight with your insurance company to pay for Rogerson or De Smet. A lot of insurance companies are now paying for De Smet. I have a lot of sucessful insurance appeals listed here http://www.surfacehippy.info/insuranceappealinfo.php (http://www.surfacehippy.info/insuranceappealinfo.php)
Keep in touch and let us know how things are going.
