Well I am happy to report I finished my first triathlon after a 21 year hiatus. It was a sprint triathlon with a pool swim. And I finished second in my age group out of six. I was very happy with a 1:17:29.
I stopped doing triathlons when I started my company 20 years ago. I kept running until a car wreck derailed that about 13 years ago. And then the arthritis set in.
I was very happy that my hip did well since I have only been running for three months. And having been out of running for so long I have been having to build up my running muscles as well as dealing with the rehabilitation from surgery. The hip capsule got very sore around 1.5 miles but I took it slow and steady. It ended up being about a 25:08 5K.
I feel very good today and am headed out for a long bike ride.

Woohoo! Way to go, Dan, congratulations!
awesome!!!! congrats!
out of curiosity - when you say at 1.5 miles your 'hip capsule' got very sore... what is that in terms of sensations you felt? did it go away if you kept running, or was it a pain you just tolerated for the duration of the 5k?
