I had my 2-year checkup with Phil (Dr. Brooks' PA) this week for my LBHR. They took 3 x-rays, and all looked good. I have had absolutely no problems. I play tennis a couple of times a week, and get around and cover the court extremely well (if I do say so for myself ;D). Phil said in view of all of this, my next follow-up will be in 3 years, which will be their normal 5 years after the surgery.
Phil mentioned the much-publicized metal ion issue. He noted that there has been one HR device that had problems and has been pulled from the market (he didn't mention it by name, but I knew), but said that the BHR continues to show very good results and they (he and Dr. Brooks) are just not seeing problems. He said that Dr. Brooks has now done about 1450 BHRs, and they have had only about 20 or 30 patients come back with any problems. By my math, that is a problem rate of only about 0.2% --- that's just two tenths of a percent!! I think Dr. Brooks has been doing BHRs for about 6 years. If 0.2% is the total problem rate, that is absolutely phenomenal.
As I told Phil, I think about my hip every day --- not because there is any problem but because I constantly marvel at at it!
That's awesome! It goes to show a well placed BHR has an incredibly low complication rate.
Congrats! ;D
As that woman in my GPS would say, "Recalculating ... Recalculating." :o If about 20 or 30 of approximately 1450 patients have reported issues, that would be around 2%, rather than 0.2%.
Nevertheless, remarkable results!
Congratulations on your anniversary. Hope you will have many, many more.
Thanks for giving us an update.

Blue;
Thanks for posting your progress, as another Brooksian, it is great to hear. I am sailing along too, 1+ year on #1, and 9 months on the other. My 1 year for both sides is scheduled for late Dec (which is a middle date between the 2 to avoid 2 appopintments) and like you, no issues so far.
I marvel as well, an incredible thing it is for sure.
Thanks again
Dan
Glad to hear you are doing well. I will be revisiting Dr. Brooks in Dec for the other hip. I have over 4 years on the first one and it is doing fine.
