Title: Another deadlift personal best.
Post by: Buster on March 02, 2013, 07:18:33 PM
Did another meet today.  Squatted 415, benched 325 and had a personal best 463 in the deadlift.  My back is sore but the hip feels fine.

Nice!  Buster, you're doing great.

Im slowly ramping up on the bench, 225 x 8 x 3,.but haven't gotten serious on the deadlift or the squat. Any place to get good instruction on that? I know good form is critical.

My form on the dead lift is not the greatest.  Try to stay on your heels and keep the shoulders back and butt down.  My dead is now better than before the resurface. I'm still chicken with the squat, about 40lbs below pre surgery.  225x8 reps on the bench is pretty good.  Don't rush the squat or dead.  I waited one year before training them again.

Buster - incredibly impressive.

It's stunning to know how secure these resurfacing devices are attached to our bodies.

I'm not a dead lift person but I'm glad to be back to bench presses as my recovery goes forward.

I've truly missed squatting though for 4+ years and you give me lots of hope that I'll be able to do that again.

Best of luck in your future competitive meets.

Buster,

Those are impressive numbers!  I am going to my first meet in May. How old are you and what is your weight class and lifting federation? I am 66 and will compete at 181 USAPL. I have some Florida records but that was pre-hip. I would appreciate any training tips.

Woldaudio

Are you doing the usapl masters in Orlando in May?  I compete usapl in Wisconsin and uspf in the Chicago area.  I usually compete in the 198 class but the last 2 meets I was lazy and weighed in at 201.  My numbers are not competitive but I like to do it anyway.  I will be 58 in June.  Keep posting, I always like to read about powerlifting, especially from those of us with new hips.  Joe

Another PR deadlift by 2.5 kilos, 468.5lbs.  I hope to hit 500 before I'm 60.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4ilX5bBCQ8

Nice,  Buster!

Excellent progress - I'd bet on your making that weight by 60.

I'm nursing some slight tendinitis at the base of the middle finger on my right, recently picked 20 extra pounds on the bench press, moved some furniture and increased my heavy bag work on hands. All of that I think contributed, so...

The hip is fine, but I'm icing the joint and letting it deconflict.

Wow!  Impressive!  You make me very hopeful to be able to go back to free weights one day. :D

Kimberly, you have to take your time, 1yr before hitting the weights.  My biggest concern now is my back and hamstrings.  Back in November I strained my right hamstring and that set me back 3 months.  The back is also an issue if I over train.  I turn 58 next month so that gives me 2 yrs to hit my goal.

Hernanu, I too have a bit of tendinitis in a couple of fingers but it doesn't affect my bench.

Thanks Danny!
