Recently, when I had my second resurfacing done, the surgeon noticed that I had an anteverted hip. I'm wondering how common that is and if others have dealt with this issue.

Hi Caroline, The way I've heard, it is a fairly common thing (about 10% of kids are born with it), and typically corrects itself over time.
No action is taken to correct it unless the kid is older than 8 and is not anteverted above 15 degrees. It's the cause of 'pigeon toes' (toes pointing inwards).
Apparently it corrects itself by adolescence. Doesn't seem like a cause for concern, especially if he only noticed it during the surgery.

I have anteverted hips!! My friends have always laughed at my pigeon toes. I think my surgeon has corrected my during my THR as now I only seem to have one foot facing inwards. From what I gather, it is quite common, especially with dysplasia patients. I wouldn't worry too much. As hern says, I don't think it's any cause for concern :D

I was just wondering if my anteverted hips had caused the arthritis buildup resulting in 2 hip resurfacings.
I'm not a medical person so can't give any definitive answer, but I think that the sources I read did not point to that.
Since it's a fairly normal thing, and tends to stabilize over time, probably not.
My 2 cents....
I've just heard from my surgeon who has informed me that my inherited anteverted hip is responsible for the OA. At least I now have a reason for hip surgery in my 50s. (My first surgeon, who I soon replaced, told me that nobody would give me surgery and that I should come back in 10 years!!!)
