I am a 42yr. old male that had both hips resurfaced using the BHR, in Baltimore, MD with the surgeon being recommended as one the best on the east coast, could not find any one locally to even touch them. I was referred to either the Rothsman Institute in PA, or Dr. Henry Boucher out of Balt. So, long story short it has been almost 3yrs. and I started out feeling like a new man, recovery went well, pt I found to be easy, and then when released returned to work and physical activity, working myself back into decent shape, always around 225lbs. and I am 6ft 2, started golfing some and even returned to playing basketball and running when needed, very active in coaching baseball and softball, but....have had pain issues and the awful sounds of clancking and grinding, the pain has now become unbearable and have been to er numerous times, and my primary, but nothing more than xray that shows nothing, all physical activity to a stand still w/ these days bearly being able to walk, had one visit w/ a specialist locally, just to see the PA and be told nothing shows on xray and doc is not crazy about messing w/ others work. So here in lies the problem, surgery was done and pd in full by the then insurance, new insurance pre-existing condition, too expensive, so had to go the Medicaid route and can"t get until Dec. just to see primary to be referred to a specialist, but weight gain up to 255 and hardly any rom along with constant pain in both hips, insomnia, and depression, not able to be employed but a little mobile and chugging through, good days = ok, bad days just miserable, knowing I need to get tested for metals, is there anything else??? er says you just have to have the thr, but is it possible for them to have run their course already??? any suggestions greatly appreciated
Sorry you're dealing with this... The best thing to do is to get to a specialist as quickly as possible, one with experience in HR. Are you in Baltimore?
One thing you can do is to take the XRays that they have, send them to one of the surgeons on here that would look at them for free and let you know if they can see any problems. It may be that more practiced eyes can see an issue.
Another thing I've heard is that an MRI can show any damage from metal ion issues, so that may be a good thing to do. Obviously have the metal ion tests done.
But get yourself to someone knowledgeable. Someone like Dr. Su in New York (3 hours away from Baltimore) might be worth talking to. He does HRs and THRs, and can give you the straight scoop on what's going on.
Again, sorry you're dealing with this, keep in touch.
