I am a newly registered member to this site, however prior to my surgery, I found all of your comments to be very helpful. So, in order to add to the database of information, I felt that I should share my experience.
On Friday, March 21st, Dr. Jason Brockwell performed a BHR on my right arthritic hip. The outcome has been tremendous so far and PT is going well.
So, here's the backstory.
Some of you out there might be in Asia and looking for an experienced Hip Doctor. I live in Beijing, China. My concern was to find someone with enough experience to diagnose and treat the chronic pain in my right hip.
My first thought was: suffer with my chronic pain until I get back to the States this summer, and then have either a BHR or a THR, because I didn't know if I could find a doctor to trust in China. The down side to that is a lost summer...limited ability to travel or visit family and friends...
However, luckily I found Dr. Jason Brockwell. He is a British orthopedic surgeon, working in Hong Kong and Beijing. You can find his bio on Asia Medical Specialists website in Hong Kong (wasn't allowed to post a link)
He regularly visits the SOS Clinic in Beijing to see hip patients. After a first visit, an x-ray, diagnosis, and a final visit loaded with a million questions, I felt I had selected the right doctor to do my BHR. He has great bedside manner and is very responsive to email questions. Most importantly, he is a very competent surgeon with experience in BHR's and THR's. My surgery was at Matilda Hospital in Hong Kong. We planned to have the kids' spring break while I had my surgery. They go to Hong Kong Disney, then pop in to say hi, etc. I would happily recommend him to anyone seeking a BHR or THR in Asia. Feel free to ask any questions and I will do my utmost to answer between my PT sessions and naps... My only regret is that I waited this long to get the BHR!!
welcome to our very special club! I have had a bilateral BHR with Doctor Brockwell 02. January 2014 in Hong Kong. I am now 3 month after surgery and everything is fine.
