Title: Sitting cross legged and pulling ankle for quad stretch
Post by: lgbran on June 24, 2014, 05:30:28 AM
Hi folks ,
Hoping I'm making sense .coming up to 8 month mark in a few weeks and posing the above query
How long before you can sit cross legged?
How long before I can pull my ankle up for a quad stretch?

I think that varies from one surgeon's protocols to another and probably by patient too. Your best resource is probably the Dr. That said, Dr. Gross removes all restrictions at 6 months, though from experience I'd say try it gently, if it doesn't feel right don't do it. Wait a couple of weeks and try again.

6- inth mark for me as well.  However, I was not able to sit cross legged until I started yoga at the 12-month mark.  Yoga has been extreemly beneficial in getting me back to my former active self.

Kimberly,
I am 6 mos post op on one and 11 mos post op on the other. I've been able to sit cross legged comfortably for the last 6 weeks or so. I began by propping my backside up on a pillow and that helped a lot. I agree -- yoga has been so beneficial. One thing I can't do is get into child's pose and get my forehead on the floor. The muscles just won't let me. It's not comfortable. I'm hopeful that I'll be able to do it in another 6 months.

As far as a quad stretch -- I've been doing that since about 10 weeks post op.

It is pretty amazing Juno how quickly you hit new milestones. I hope your continued efforts get you there into childs pose and others soon.

Thanks folks gives me some idea . Last couple of weeks reached the stage of being able to get into drivers seat normally lol. In some aspects progress has been slow erring on the side of caution. No dramas with aerobic or endurance it's my flexibility or lack of which is the delay. Need to work at it like everything else. Wasn't sure whether if I tried to sit cross legged something would come adrift . Hip feels great in itself.
Cheers and great go hear about the inroads you have been making 😄

You will get there! Baby steps are good -- I keep telling myself this :)

Kim -- I was blessed with extreme flexibility and was in good shape before my hips decided they had enough and shut down on me. I went from fine and full ROM to not able to walk 1/2 mile in about 6 months time --- I think that is the reason why I still maintained alot of ROM. I had surgery pretty quickly once my hips failed. We will get there! You're doing awesome.
