Title: At about 20 weeks and...CLUNKING?
Post by: GreenHills on August 10, 2014, 08:47:35 PM
I've read how sometimes there is an issue described as "clunking" and I think I'm experiencing it.  I seem to walk fine, but after a while - my operative side - it's like my muscle is a piano string and someone plucks it.  #TWANG#

It is a mild sensation and no pain.  It doesn't affect my walking.  It just gets annoying and it doesn't happen all the time.  I'm thinking this is what people refer to as "clunking."

Is this normal?  Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks for any feedback.

My clunking isn't anything like that at all. I'm just coming up on 3 months post-op. My clunk is just that - a "clunk" or a "chunk". Sort of like when a U-joint on a jeep starts to go, or maybe someone chopping wood way far away. It's most noticeable when I'm tired, especially on a bike when I'm hunched over a little bit. This forum's mentioned it a lot, so as long as it doesn't hurt, I'm not worrying about it.

Best,

Jim

Just about everyone has it, it's a sign of the small muscles around the joint being tired or not yet strong enough.

It does abate and eventually becomes rare.

Thanks everyone.  I guess I'm not clunking, I'm just twanging.  I did notice that after a good night's sleep, the phenomenon seemed to subside.  Just muscles trying to get back to where they once were!  Thanks again.

I'm almost 12 months after surgery and clunking is a regular feature, but it doesn't stop me doing anything. There are a couple of movements where I can almost reproduce it at will, for example bending over with straight legs to reach my toes.

9.5 months here and I clunk regularly. Don't worry about it anymore and there is no pain associate  with it.

I've read and heard about the clunking and I guess that's what I experienced from time to time, for the first couple of months after surgery. There was no audible sound, but when I would bend over  to pick up stuff, etc. there would be this sensation that something suddenly shifted position in my hip: a feeling like my hip was clunking into place. In my case, that sensation has apparently disappeared for good since about two or three months post op. I never experienced this sensation with the botched HR or the revision but I understand it is normal for a time after a correctly done HR.
