Title: Current Resurfacing Options for U.S. Women
Post by: Paprika on March 14, 2017, 05:05:48 PM
Following the voluntary removal of BHR (under 50mm in size) what devices are FDA approved for use in women? Also, has any woman out there had resurfacing done by Dr. Su during 2016 or 2017?  Thanks.  (I'm a 61 year-old avid runner recently diagnosed with "bone on bone" osteoarthritis in my left hip.)

I can't tell you how many devices are FDA approved. However, Dr. Pritchett(Seattle) uses the Synovo Preserve and Dr. Gross(Columbia, SC) uses the Biomet (I think - blinky will chime in if I'm wrong). These are both FDA approved devices. These devices are used in both men and women.

Bone on bone pain is brutal.

I think those are the two devices used in the US. Dr Su uses Biomet I hear.

I believe there are at least two other devices women could get outside the US. McMinn has a non metal device (might be in trials) and Dr deSmet uses a metal one that is not available in the US but has been used with much success.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you.  This is very helpful.  I think the one that is in trials with Dr. McMinn is PolyMotion.
