Title: Any insight?
Post by: CodyNorton on October 16, 2023, 09:34:34 AM
I'm eagerly anticipating my Hip Resurface Job with Dr. Gross, which is less than 60 days away. As I prepare for the recovery process, I'm aware of the importance of adhering to the 90-degree rule. When I sit in my chair or drive my car, it often feels like I'm consistently exceeding the 90-degree limit with my hip movements. Am I overthinking this, or will I need to make adjustments to my daily routine? For instance, I'm concerned that getting in and out of my vehicle, a Ford Escape, may require bending beyond the 90-degree angle. I'd appreciate any insights or advice on this matter.

You no doubt are exceeding 90 degrees in your daily life. In the immediate aftermath of the surgery you won't be able to bend more than 90 degrees without pain. So, yes, it's important to adhere to the rule, but it won't be as difficult as you're anticipating. Regarding your chair: buy a recliner. You won't regret it.

I think it is less of an issue with a resurfacing as opposed to a THR…? As in hip replacement more likely to “pop out”

In fact in one meeting with a junior surgeon he said something along the lines

“I don’t have any BHR dislocation stats for you because it just doesn’t happen. In fact you’d need to be hit by a bus to dislocate it”  😳
