Title: ICE Therapy
Post by: Joshadam on January 24, 2024, 03:04:05 AM
Hi all,

I am due for Surgery next week in London.
My consultant mentioned using a ICE therapy machine post surgery.
I have been sent the link for a Breg Vpulse.
Are these very beneficial or has anyone else used any other type of ICE machine/device/pack?

Thanks

Josh

Icing will be needed after surgery, it helps with swelling and pain relief.  I didn't use a machine but have heard good things about them.  Alternatives are ice packs- I found some packaged clay ice packs- they form closely to the body but don't stay really cold as long as I would have preferred.  What was helpful was to wet some small towels and get them into sealable plastic bags then into the freezer.  They also form well to the body, stay cold a good long time and just need to be put back into the freezer for re-use without leaking drips or further re-wetting.

Also remember- first week can be a little rough.  Do your exercises as directed but don't overdue it.  Your movements may be limited and there will be some associated pain so go slowly and carefully- progress will be incremental, sometimes fractions of an inch, that's just normal.  I found it valuable to do the exercises more often during the day rather than strive for big gains early on.  Patience will be your friend.  Best wishes.

Thanks for commenting. I have purchased 2 different ice packs for the hip. I just didn’t know if any more advanced was needed but il see how I get on.

Also thanks for the advice for the first week. I can imagine I will be limited and quite sore. I will try and be patient with the recovery.

Thanks again
