Title: Catheter after Hip Resurfacing Surgery.
Post by: hannondavid on April 05, 2024, 10:23:18 AM
Have any of you not been able to pee after this surgery and required a catheter?  If yes, how long did you need it and did you go home with the catheter?  Thanks.

Hi David.

I didn’t need one (I know you were asking for people that did to comment), but my understanding is that the need for a catheter  isn’t in connection with the hip operation per se, it’s caused by the general anaesthetic. Have you had a general anaesthetic before?

answered in your other post.

Needed it 1 time, to empty bladder. They did not leave it in and i did not need it again.

Unfortunately yes. I needed it in for two nights. Must’ve filled the bag something like 8 times. I was always so thirsty. I’ve read that it’s a side effect of the op, but also the pain killers I was on.

Hurt like crazy coming out. That is definitely a low point of the process!

They definitely wanted it out though and no one mentioned anything about taking it home as they said it was a potentially prime source of infection.
