I saw Dr Marwin yesterday and I was released from all restrictions.  Last week I started running on the treadmill, 2 minutes on 2 off for about 15 minutes, to get ready for my new freedom.  Over the weekend I ran on the grass on the side of the road 1 minute on 2 minutes off for forty minutes twice.   Yesterday and today I did 30 minutes each; 5 minute walking warm-up, 1 minutes on 1 off and I feel great!  I'll keep it around this length for a while and start to get the running intervals longer.  And I'm dreaming; I see myself running well again, doing well in races and running all well as I can.

I also lied in another thread, I'm not done with triathlon; I'm also dreaming about Olympic distance Age Group World Championships in London next summer.

Awesome mate I'm so pleased for you. If you make it to London next summer look me up as London is only 35miles from me.

Thanks guys, right now I'm icing the hips after my first really rockin' mountain bike ride; 58 minutes @ 11.2 mph.  Fourth workout of the day: 33 minutes stretching and core, 32 minute swim, 32 minute run/walk, 58 minute mountain bike.

It's great to be retired!

That's awesome, Woody!

I am starting to feel like an athlete again.  Three months of running after a ten year layoff.  And my first sprint tri under my belt.  I tried to convince myself I just wanted to finish but I got competitive.  I got second in my age group on 2.5 months of training.  That is muscle memory!  Watch out!  Dreaming about Ironman again.

Best wishes.

''Dreaming about Ironman again''

It's great, isn't it, to feel like you could get back to where you were before the wheels came off.  I don't need to do IM again, did it once, trained for it twice, broke my arm running, two weeks before the second one.  To me, it's a better challenge to get fast at a higher age than to go longer and slower.

36 minutes on the treadmill today 2.5 minutes run/1.5 walk.  I'm coming back!

You guys are giving me hope.  I find myself  accepting that I'll never catch up to my wife, fitness-wise (she is a total machine).  Maybe I can!

NOOOOO!!!! You can't do a Triathlon!!! You guys are going to ruin my chances of being a top Bi-Lat Hiippy Triathlete.

If more Hippys start to believe that they can do Triathlons, the races will be swamped with us.  What's next? THRs up in the mix, too?  Listen! Don't let the word out that we can run, swim and bike again. Let them stay on the coach while we get the medals.  C;min guys! Damn!

I am swimming and biking but I have not started to run - I am waiting for a full year on my second hip before i try that and get checked out by my Doc at the one year post-op.  I thought running was the one thing my Doc did not want me to do :-(

Yippee, sounds great.  Keep it up!

I'm going to try to be smart about this phase of my running and racing carreer.  I'm 62 years old and my body has already done a yoeman's effort of keeping me having fun.  I'm going to try and give my body a little more respent this time around. I'll never again do long distance,  try to do all training runs off pavement and focus on Short course and off-road triathlon and mountain bike races.  Now that I no longer work, I think I have a short window to try to and see how good I can get.  Going to give it my best shot.  Wish me luck!

Excellent Woody!
It's good to see you took Boomer's advice, too - and got the "Play Hip" and not the "work hip"  :)

Thanks everybody.  Remember those old Nike ads?  This morning when I got to the trails near my house, I decided to skip the intervals and just see how I felt.  After a 5 minute walking warm up I ran until 9 min took a short walk on the first very easy uphill, then ran til another short uphill at 13.  These were 10 of 15 second breaks. Then ran to 23 where a had a steeper down to up section.  Then I ran until 42, downhills, uphills, it all felt great. then a 4 minute walking cool down.  I feel like a runner again.  This was all very slow but who cares, I feel like a runner again.  This is really great!
