Dan L

Today is the 1st anniversary of my second BHR, ending the 16 and 1/2 months of restrictions on activity since my first BHR in October, 2011.

I could not be more happy with my resurfacings.  Not only have my hips gone from bad prior to "easy to forget" now, my health generally has improved as part of the effort to keep weight off to preserve my new implants, so I have had a double-barreled benefit from all of this.  Both sides continue to get better.

I have been ramping up physical activity and exercise, and put some additional stress on the hips with no issues.  Took a big spill while walking downhill at night on some iced-over snow last weekend, landing awkwardly and hard on the ice, with no issues other than a little soreness.  (The dogs thought I was down for the count, and came rushing to see what happpened, which was funny to see).  Hiking the big hills along the escarpment behind our home in WNY have been pain free for some time, most noticable when descending, which is something that was really painful prior to the surgeries.  Many, many other things are now possible as well.

Thanks once again to Pat and all the fellow surface hippies here, you have all been critically important to my recovery and I am forever in your debt.

Warm regards,

Dan

Congratulations Dan.  Your restrictions were for 16 months?

Glad you survived the ice / snow fall with no grief - that's a real test of both BHR's that I'm sure you would have preferred to avoid!

Good to hear of your pain free hiking too - something I've really missed for @ 4 years but hope to return to this year.

All the best.

Congrats, Dan! No better feeling than to have the road clear. You'll still heal and feel twinges, etc. but it's great to be good to go.

Thanks everyone, I really do feel very, very, very fortunate.

@Ross, My restrictions started after my first BHR (10/2011) for 12 months then the second BHR 4.5 months later for 12 months total restrictions (considering a restriction on one side is a restriction for both) of 16.5 months.  It has flown by after the  initial healing periods after each (which dragged a bit sitting at home).

That is awesome news!!!  I had both hips done.  My last surgery was March 1, 2013.  I am vigorously playing basketball again 2 or 3 times a week for about 1.5 hours each time.  My hips are feeling great.  The other days I do mostly cardio, low impact stuff on a machine.  I have lost all of my post surgery weight plus.  It's great to have my life back.  I do get concerned about going too hard and doing too much.

Good luck to you for the future!!

its great to read about the success stories for the bilat people on here!  I am having surgery tomorrow on the second hip.  first hip was done just shy of 6 weeks ago.  hopefully they heal together and 9 months to a year from now I will be as well off as you guys!  :)
