When did subtle lingering pain disappear and where was it prominent?

Thought I’d ask for shared experiences with subtle or constant pain that lingers after surgery.

What was it? When did it clear up? Or has it ever cleared up?

BSarchet

The pain for me that lingered on was my hip flexor area.  I could do the leg lifts but it stayed sore for a while.  It was the 14 week mark where it really improved, and that also coincided with when I was working on flexibility and ROM and started seeing good improvement there. Not sure if they are correlated or just coincidence.

My Dr did say that the hip flexors on that side were very irritated so this wasn’t overly surprising.  But by four months I was really catching a gear with movement, flexibility, and almost all pain gone.

The thing that worries me about hip flexor/psoas muscle etc at 8-16 week mark is it’s still not taken a test of what’s it capable of because of activity restrictions set out by doctors.  A lot of people have these issues due to the cup/component rubbing and catching and find out later on they can’t run again or have on going issues.

By about 4 months, all pain was gone, but I didn’t push or start any heavy exercise or stretching until 6 months.  The “clunk” or “thunk” never caused any pain, just disconcerting, like something shifting.  Turned out it was just the muscles moving over the implant.  By 6 months, that was gone, too.  After a year, I didn’t give the new hip a moment’s thought.  Started thinking about the other one when it started giving me grief.  Didn’t wait as long to pull the trigger on that one!

Did you ever get flare ups in the hip when walking for some time or exercising?

MarvinB

No flare-ups.  I felt like I could walk forever, but my left hip started sending warning shots.  After a year, I could do 110 pounds on the adductor and abductor machines at the gym, 100 pound squats, 10 miles on a stationary bike with resistance.  No problems.  At 4 months post-op, I did 4 miles in soft sand on a state park beach trail in Florida and wanted to do more!  This time around, I’m taking it a little slower and trying not to over-do.
