White water rafting on the Ocoee
« on: August 16, 2012, 03:02:51 PM »
How soon after surgery would you consider a half day trip on the Ocoee?  I will be four months out and would love to go with my daughter on her trip with her highschool senior class?  They need drivers/chaperone Any thought or experiences rafting after HR?
Thanks,
Dee

Bummer, Dee Dee - I'm sure you'll get other opportunities, it sucks to miss these things, though.

Hi Dee Dee,

I plan to go but I'm 4 and a half months now and there is no way I'd be going for quite a while. I had a big out on my last pre op rafting trip and my butt took a battering from rocks going down river in the white water swimming position. After 12 months post op for me, I think.

Cheers

Better safe than sorry.  My daughter is going rafting and should have a great time. I will let the other parents have the fun this time.  maybe I will go with the "extreme women of the woods" group at my church next summer!

On another note: We are going to Disneyworld for a week  next month.  Walking is fine.  I will avoid the super jerky rides because of my neck.  I foresee no problems if I take it easy.  Plus I can get the Guest assistance card if I feel the arthritis in the other hip is really affecting me.

Thanks,
Dee

Disneyworld should be fine, Dee - actually should be really good for your walking by that time. Good point on the other hip, though - that in between time for non-simultaneous bilats is like another of those disco wisdom songs ... joy and pain, sunshine and rain (all apologies to Rob Base).
