Joe’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Plakseychuk 2015
I had the same experience meeting with other surgeons in Pittsburgh that [many had]. They did not do hip resurfacing. Some had strong opinions against it, but none of them had ever performed it.
I evaluated everything and went with Plakseychuk. Because my surgery was so recent, I don’t have years to share, just months. The staff at Magee is top notch. Pain from surgery was less than what I had prior and recovery was faster than expected. I expect to be running again by spring and am already doing stationary bike and elliptical.
I called Dr. Brooks’ s office in Cleveland and could have gone there, but I was already comfortable with Plakseychuk and he was in my network. He’s done over 600 of these and I was convinced that that was enough. Brooks, Su and Gross have done thousands, so they’re probably the top guys, but a surgeon with 600 isn’t exactly a rookie.
I also considered the ease of follow up staying close to home. I’m completely happy with the result so far and am sure it was the right decision for me. I did plenty of research, a lot of it with suggestions from this group, but ultimately made the call because I wanted to get back to running. Too early to tell whether I’ll be running near the same level.
Despite feeling great now, I’m forcing myself to go slowly on that. From the information I now have, if I had to get the other hip done, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to Plakseychuk.
