Keith Gault Story Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Klug 2007
Re: Dr. Klug in CA
Hi Pat.
I just wanted to contribute my info also regarding my surgery with Dr. Klug (Roseville California, just outside of Sacramento California). He performed a resurfacing on my right hip 03Jan2007. Dr. Klug is my HERO! Not only do I feel that he is a top notch orthopedic surgeon but he is also just a downright good human being! He never lost his patience with me even though I tried to tax him with question after question about my hip problem. He treated me like I was his only patient. Some people will be intimidated with his stuttering problem. I on the other hand was only more impressed by how this gentleman was able to overcome his speech impediment and become a wonderful orthopedic surgeon.Dr. Klug will not do a resurfacing on everyone. He looks at each patient and will then make a recommendation as to what he feels is the best treatment for that patient. I know that age is one big factor in his decision to do a resurfacing or replacement. I returned to work (fire department) 8 weeks after surgery. I still am doing my own PT to assist in bringing all the muscles back to their full strength. I can golf with no pain and am exercising frequently on my exercycle and treadmill (only walk at about 2.5mph on the treadmill at a 25 percent grade but it gives a great workout).I am 50 y/o and in excellent health (5’10” 160 lbs). I think by staying in shape all my life it has helped tremendously in my rehab. If anyone has any questions regarding Dr. Klug please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thanx for your time. C ya, KGRe: Golf question Hit my first bucket of balls at 8 weeks post-op. Started with half wedges and worked up from there. For me it was like riding a bike. Swing came back immediately. I am now able to brace against my R leg on my backswing (I am a R handed golfer…about 7 handicap) where pre-surgery my R leg would tend to bow out. It is important to be able to rotate around your R leg…not let it bow out…on your backswing so the surgery helped a lot with that. My leg muscle strength/stability still has a way to go but it is already better and only improving day to day. In summary… I think you will find that your swing will come back very quickly and you will be loving/playing golf often. As usual…check with your doctor and listen to your body prior to starting back to golf. Best of luck! C ya, KG |
