Larry’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Mont 2006
February 14, 2018 Update
I had my right hip done in 2005 at 53 years old by Dr. Mont using a Wright C+ so I’m at the 12 1/2 year mark. No problems, no concerns, no looking back. Interesting reading some of the responses – I had a very easy time of it post op – never took any of the pain meds after leaving the hospital on the 2nd day post op, with the exception of taking one the 3rd and 4th nights to help me be comfortable and sleep. Otherwise Ibuprofen did fine for me. At my 15 day post op check I drove the 4 hours to Baltimore, walked in on one crutch, walked out on none, threw the crutch into the trunk of my car and never used it again, at least not related to the resurfacing.

I’m kinda new here – used to be around here back in the year following my resurf by Michael Mont (4 years ago I think – maybe 5). Assuming you don’t have complications it really does get better much quicker after the forst week or so. I was driving again on day 9 even though I was still using crutches. At 3 weeks I drove to Baltimore for my postop checkup – it’s a 3 1/2 hour drive from my home – Dr. Mont said full weight bearing and I tossed the crutch into the trunk and never looked back. By 3 months out I was riding my bicycle again and essentially able to do whatever I wanted without pain; there was still some tightness, but that resolved pretty quickly with the bike riding. I have never done anything for myself (at least not from a medical standpoint) that made my life better than getting this done.
If you’re relatively young, in decent shape and work hard at PT I’d bet that 3-4 months from now you’ll be ready to go for the 2nd hip. It’s really amazing how nice life is without pain with every step.

I will be 5 years out on 4/17. Something those who aren’t so far out probably don’t realize that there comes a point when instead of feeling this or that twinge or whatever from the surgery and implant, you have to make a conscious effort to feel anything unnatural at all. For me it took about 3 years to hit that mark, and even then would occasionally get hit with this or that sensation that reminded me that I had had the surgery, but for the last 2 years I haven’t had any of those reminders.
I wouldn’t want the good doctor to go unrepresented. Dr. Mont resurfed me with a Wright Conserve + 4/17/06. Great surgeon IMHO, great result.
