Mark C’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Rector 2006
I am pleased to forward to you my personal perspective on the hip resurfacing operation that you performed on me on November 17, 2006. Prior to meeting with you, my regular orthopedist had advised me that I should wait for at least 5 more years before having a hip replacement due to my age. At the time, I was unable to walk for more than about 10 minutes without having to stop to rest for the next 5. For a former ground-pounding Marine whose family hikes became known as “death marches,” this was hardly acceptable. I had begun researching alternatives to hip replacement a few months earlier only to learn that the hip resurfacing was not available in the U.S. at that time, but that approval was pending. We were quite relieved to not only see the approval come through, but to also see that the operation could be performed at my favorite hospital – Boulder Community. Your office assistants and preparation for the surgery was friendly, thorough and totally reassuring. I knew exactly what to expect when I went to the hospital, and everything went exactly as explained. I was pleased beyond words to awaken from the operation totally free of my former pain, and ready by the next day to begin moving around and start therapy. Once again, your instructions for home care were precise, to the point and contributed to what I feel was a remarkable recovery on my part. It is now 4.5 months after my surgery, and I am doing everything I was doing before I lost the ability to do so about a year ago. I have total recovery of my flexibility and strength and could not be more pleased. My heartfelt thanks to you and to all of your staff, each of whom made this a pleasant journey to recovered health and joy of life once again.
Sincerely,
Mark Carson
