My wife, who is 69, had a bilateral hip resurfacing in Germany in mid November 2012 – together with three weeks of rehabilitation. The hospital stay was for about two and a half weeks because there was a complication:
Our American dentist had previously extracted a tooth and left parts of the rotten root in my wife’s jaw. This led to major oral surgery and a delay of the operation.
The rehab in a wonderful medieval town included room and board, doctors’ visits, and physical therapy.
The overall costs were around 18,000.00 Euros.
The operation was done by Professor Winter at the Klinikum in Friedrichshafen, which is situated at the Lake Constance. Our experiences were excellent. Let others know they can contact me.

There is an interesting town nearby. It is Meersburg, which has the oldest castle in Germany. You look down on the lower city from it and get dizzy, it’s so far below. The place has excellent wine also. From there, there is a ferry across the lake to Switzerland and the Alps.
My wife is walking without crutches now. She had her operation in mid-November of 2012.
Bills are still coming in. So, my estimate was a little low. It looks like the double-hip surgery with two and a half weeks of hospital stay is about 20, 000.00 Euro.
