Rebecca bilateral hip resurfacing with Dr. Barber 2011
I had a bilateral hip resurface on Jan 3rd 2011 Dr. Barber, Kaiser / Oakland, CA he is very nice and a good surgeon. I am doing well and on no med’s since Jan 23 rd except Advil . I had hip displaysia in both sides. Now I’m straight and even and balanced for the first time in my life. It was a weird feeling at first. Sleeping is my main issue and my right side is weaker than left. There’s also so much difference in what some PT’s let you do than others. I have Kaiser and my visiting PT is very cautious and doesn’t want me to overdue it till I see arber on the Feb 4th and then get his approval . I’m off to Costco today to walk, the floors are good there for the walker!! Maybe after seeing Dr. Barber, I will do pool therapy. Thanks Again for web-site, Rebecca Update I saw Dr. Barber on Friday Feb 4th and had my x-ray’s which are beautiful. I was very happy and he was very happy, too at how I was doing. He had me walk and moved my hips and they were great, no pain. My right side has more weakness and he gave me some exercise for it. The left is the rock star. I’m off all restrictions with the use of caution not to go to fast with things and will see him in 3 months. I have chosen to stay with the walker till I get the right stronger, I really want to have a normal gait and not walk side ways as before. I have been reading a lot and have only been worried about fractures as I’m a 5’2″ 134 lb woman, not small bones though. Dr. Barber told me not to worry it since all looked good and it would have happened by now. I have always been good with vit C, omega’s with vit D, and calcium , iron. So I’m hoping these hips last. Some history is in 2002 I hurt myself moving a bed on my knees, moved to the right and heard a pop and had a lot of pain. Went to Dr. and was told I had bilateral hip dysphasia!! Missing 3/4″ off cup side, anyway was a big surprise to me , I was 42 and had 2 kids and always been active. My insurance disputed how I didn’t know and did a search back to birth. I had never had any problems, with back or hips or any joints, so they had no case of existing problems. Looking back it was so good I didn’t know, I really lived well with it. In 2004, I went to Dr. Mont and he did bone grafting, on right it was good for awhile and then left and right both started with problems water cysts and just really bad pain. I saw Dr. Barber in June 2010, and he gave me Melixicam, that was wonderful, really was better. Then on Oct 13th 2010, I was in CT visiting to see daughter, I was hit in my rental car on freeway and spun twice in road and slammed backwards in to cement abutment, lucky to be alive. Then came back problems, which as I was told by all Dr’s I saw would not get better till my hips got fixed because of my gait and weakness in hip area. I saw Dr. Barber again on Dec 23rd 2010 did pre-op. I had my bilateral on Jan 3rd 2011. I was in hospital 4 days walked to bathroom end of 2nd day, had some pain but not a lot. I was weak and my blood pressure was on the low side and was even lower because of meds. It took awhile to get moving. I kept ice on hips and it really helped. I only had swelling once really on left above knee. I was on warfrin 3 weeks and teds just came off. That’s the long and short of it. |
