Terry Clewley Hip Resurfacing Story in India 2001
Terry had his first hip done by Mr. Ronan Treacy ( colleague of Mr. Minn) in
2001. We had seen doctors in both the U.S and the U.K for months before this and
had only been told to wait as he was young for traditional hip replacement. We
were thrilled with the result of the surgery, except for a lot of discomfort
from the use of staples instead of stitches. The surgery cost us about £12,000
including the hospital stay at a private hospital in England.
When his second hip started to go we did not want to wait too long before
getting the surgery and looked for a very experienced surgeon, working from a
good hospital who could operate quite quickly. We hoped for a slightly smaller
incision and careful stitching – NOT staples.
We were willing to consider any location if all the other factors were right.
In the end, after much research we found Dr. Malhan at the Wockhardt Hospital in
Mumbai ( Bombay). We are so very glad we made that choice!! The hospital was
incredible, and Dr. Malhan superb. We have quite extensive experience of
healthcare in both the U.S and U.K. and have never found better.
I was able to stay in the room with Terry for the whole of our 12 day stay. The
surgery was perfect and the stitching so neat there was never any bleeding after
the surgery. The pain control was superb and the physio excellent.
Dr. Malhan visited constantly and spent time talking with us. He was far more
communicative than most surgeons. He was genuinely concerned and caring and
modified his care in response to any problems Terry had. The whole team working
with him took enormous pride in the care they offered and every single
individual played his part to the best of his or her ability.
We left the hospital and moved to a rented villa on the beach in Goa about an
hours flight away. Healing was going wonderfully, and then Terry twisted his leg
and damaged a muscle. We talked to Dr. Malhan on the phone ( he had given us his
personal number ) and went to a nearby hospital. They were excellent, and we
kept in close contact with Dr. Malhan during the next week till we went back to
the Wockhardt to have our post op check up. He gave us great confidence.
There is lots of information about Dr. Malhan and the Wockhardt on
www.wockardthospitals.net The hospital has close ties with the U.S.
Dr Malhan has a great deal of experience with hip resurfacing as you will see
from that site.
We are incredibly positive about our total experience. The level of care was
were given was fantastic and the cost was incredibly low – about £4,000 for the
whole package. We now consider this Dr and hospital as part of our healthcare
team and would not hesitate to use them again and recommend them to all our
friends.
I am attaching a few photos, but have more. We are willing to answer questions
about our experiences.
