Today is my 8 year anniversary of my BHR by Dr. De Smet of Belgium.  It is still  doing well and I never had any problems with my hip resurfacing.  I was very lucky to have a quick and easy recovery.  I was on one crutch for 3 weeks and sight seeing in Belgium 5 days post op.  Same as the other 8 patients I was with.  We had a great time in Belgium with each other crutching around the Holiday Inn and Ghent.

I am now 69, so I hope my BHR will stay with me a long, long time.  No one knows, but it has served me well so far.

I still believe in hip resurfacing and encourage anyone with a bad hip – male, female, small, large, young or old – to get an opinion or two from the very most experienced surgeons to find out if they are a candidate.  Different surgeons have different protocols.  I still believe that the very experienced hip resurfacing surgeons have the best overall outcome – based on national registries, personal stories and surgeon’s personal series.
