Alan’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Rector 2009
I’ve been a runner, skier, bicyclist, and mountain climber all my adult life. When told, at age 47, that what I thought was a pulled muscle was in fact a case of advanced osteoarthritis of the hip, and that I should buy a cane and take up swimming, well…I felt like I had aged 20+ years.
Luckily, a friend of mine who had a BHR with Dr. Rector and his team called and said “Gosh, so sorry to hear about your hip, but the good news is that it is totally fixable!” A few months later I had the surgery. Within a few weeks I was walking without crutches or cane; around 4 weeks I was top-rope rock-climbing, and by 6 weeks I was out hiking. Trained as a scientist, I don’t really like the term “miracle” but there’s no better way to describe my experience with hip resurfacing!
