Greetings to Surface Hippies and soon to be Surface Hippies!

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of my bi-lateral hip resurfacing surgery. January 10 and 12, 2011. My resurfaced hips are doing very well and they allow me to be very active and live a healthy life. I am an avid hiker and backpacker even at 65 years old.

I am forever grateful for this amazing procedure and technology. It’s still hard to believe I have metal in my hips because I don’t feel it or have any limitations.

May 3, 2018 – I’m in good health and busy with a garden project, rebuilding a garden wall. Still competing in motorsport, 3rd in the ACSMC class championship with my 1973 Alfa Romeo GTAm. Still have the STYLUS 231BHP racer but not competing with it right now . Both hips functioning well, one at 18yrs, the other 3yrs now, thanks to Mr McMinn and team.

Jim Ryall continues to live a busy and active live. The intrepid walker sets out to climb Mount Aconcagua in Argentina, almost ten years after having bilateral Birmingham Hip Resurfacings (BHRs) with Mr McMinn in 2000 and 2003 respectively.

Ex-Royal Marine Jim Ryall’s used to pushing himself to the limit. But crippling hip arthritis in his late 30s forced him onto a diet of anti-inflammatories to stay active. He sought respite and after several fruitless consultations with other surgeons, bilateral BHRs from Mr McMinn – in 2000 and 2003 – enabled him to ditch the medication and get on with a pain-free life.

I began having some groin pain in the summer of 2004. An avid gardener and horseback rider, aches or pains weren’t uncommon and I didn’t pay too much attention to it. In the fall, I went on a two week trip and thought it would be a good rest for whatever muscle was bothering me.

Chuck McBee is a sports coach from the United States. He travelled to the UK to see Mr McMinn and underwent Birmingham Mid Head Resection (BMHR) surgery on his left hip.
