FDA to collect adverse event data 2011
U.S. FDA to Collect Adverse Event Data Despite UK Recall of Metal Hip Implants http://fdanews.com/newsletter/article?issueId=14568&articleId=135224 Quality problems with metal-on-metal (MoM) hip replacement systems, like Johnson & Johnson (J&J)’s ASR devices, may not be as widespread as UK data indicates, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says. National Joint Registry of England and Wales data, which last year showed high revision rates for two ASR hip resurfacing systems, led to a UK medical device alert |

Hip Resurfacing Article by Dr. Balasubramanian
Hip resurfacing: Fewer risks, more benefits. ARTHRITIS of the hip joint is a common problem in India. It occurs due to damage to the joint from various conditions such as Osteoarthritis (wear and tear arthritis), avascular necrosis (death of the bone due to lack of blood supply), trauma or injury (previous hip fractures), infection, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and other diseases. It causes severe pain, stiffness, deformity, decreased mobility and severe disability. In India, hip |

AMC Ghent, Krijgslaan 181, 9000 Ghent, Belgium Background: While providing superior hardness and improved wear characteristics, hard bearings such as metal-on-metal, or ceramic-on-ceramics bearings have different lubrication properties than hard on soft (metal- or ceramic-on-poly) bearing couples. A failure in this lubrication mechanism in metal-on-metal resurfacing prostheses can lead to squeaking… Read the restSex After Hip Resurfacing Articles

Stair use with cane or crutches
Stairs and Crutches
Stairs:
-
Use one crutch and the stair rail if present (only if the railing is stable and there is someone to carry the other crutch). Use two crutches if there is no stair rail.
-
It does not matter which side the stair rail is on.
-
If both crutches can be held in one hand safely, you can use both crutches on one side and the railing on the other.

Hip Resurfacing: To Cement or Not to Cement – that is the Question! By: John S. Rogerson, MD April 2015
By: John S. Rogerson, MD April 2015
We have received a number of inquiries in our office regarding the merits of
cemented versus non-cemented femoral head components in hip resurfacing
arthroplasty.
Bear in mind that my experience with hip resurfacing to date has essentially
been associated with the Smith and Nephew Birmingham hip resurfacing system as
designed by Drs. McMinn and Treacy.
The system utilizes a line to line fit on the femoral head component … Read the rest

DynaMoM hip resurfacing device (Tornier) by J Girard, MD, MsC.
DynaMoM hip resurfacing device was introduced in France in 2008 and
was first implanted at Lille Universitary Hospital by J. Girard, MD.
Rationale for design
The rational for the design was made according to clearance, the
rugosity, the head diameter, the sphericity and the alloy process.
DynaMoM design-included the extent of cement fixation, optimization
of implant position, minimization of stress-shielding, geometry
options, metallurgy, examination of |
Smith & Nephew Removes Small Sized BHRs from Market and No Longer Recommend use in Females
- Voluntary actions initiated to remove smaller size components and change Instructions for Use (IFU) following analysis of recent performance data
- No action required from patients; no change to current practice for patient follow-up care
- BHR continues to perform amongst the best hip replacements for the right patients
Dr. De Smet begins uncemented hip resurfacing with the Wright C+ hip resurfacing device
May 25, 2010
Dear Pat,
I indeed will start with the C plus uncemented.
I will cautiously start this and study this together with the University of Lille France.
Results only can be accepted if they are longer then 3-4 years. Nobody is there yet!! So again we have to be very cautious with results at this moment.

Anterior and Posterior Approaches for hip resurfacing by Dr. Bose
August 10, 2006 There are two ways to look at approaches to hip resurfacing or any hip arthroplasty. One is to view it with the amount of muscle damage done. The other is to view it in respect to the blood supply or the vascularity. The post approach is traditionally known as the muscle sparing approach and the anterior and anterolateral approaches are the muscle compromising approaches. These approaches are known as Hardinge approach or |
Anterior Approach to Surgery by Dr. Waldman
10/24/05 From Dr. Waldman’s Website I’ve been working on developing an anterior approach to the hip with other hip surgeons around the country. We’ve now done a few cases with the anterior approach and it appears to be working extremely well. Out first patients have had little to no pain, and walk without a limp almost immediately. I also feel that it will be prove to be much safer than the two-incision hip. The surgery |

How Fast Will I Recover by Patricia Walter
Everyone Recovers at a Different Rate
Surgery experiences and recovery rates will be different for
each person having a hip resurfacing. Many of us were very
fortunate to have good experiences in the hospital and have
fairly quick recoveries. I guess we are the Rabbits.
There are people that have experienced very difficult
recoveries and … Read the rest

Anne Caviness About Using Trekking Poles
After having my left hip resurfaced in
July 2007, for my recovery I focused on PT exercises, water
walking and exercises, and swimming. I also gradually
increased my regular walking. I went from two crutches to
one crutch, to a cane, to nothing, then to one trekking pole
for trails with steep inclines and loose rocks. I was
reluctant to use two trekking poles, because I really didn’t
know how to use them, and they … Read the rest
