Do I need any rehabilitation or physiotherapy after the surgery? Can I return to sports? Patients who received BHR surgery will share the post-operation rehabilitation process and how they benefit from the surgery.

How hip arthritis is diagnosed? How BHR differs from Total Hip Replacement (THR) surgery? Dr Jason Brockwell will brief about the traditional Total Hip Replacement (THR) surgery and give a detailed explanation on hip arthritis and Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) surgery.
Several years ago (2011) I required my second hip operation (first in 2004). Living in mainland China I decided to have the consultation & surgery performed in Hong Kong.
After some searching & some awful consultations I finally, & luckily, got recommended to Jason Brockwell.
I wont go into the finer details but suffice it to say I would recommend him without hesitation for his fine care, advice & skills. Exactly a week after the resurface I was back at work & climbing (slowly) stairs.
There may have been advances in procedure & pain management since my first op but its my belief that the surgeon is the critical factor. The difference in my physical recovery & state of mind was remarkable. Hip is strong & feeling great (touch wood).
Repeat: without hesitation!

“I have had my surgery, bilateral, 2014 with Dr. Brockwell in Hong Kong. When I met him first, I immediatly felt that I could trust him. Sometimes it is not importat how many surgeries someone has “on his belt”, (Dr. Brockwell has enough), but how dedicated you are to the human beeing which is the patient now.
Dr. Brockwell is well known in this part of Asia. The hospital Mathilda on the Peak, Hong Kong, is the only one here with the certificate for that kind of surgery. (It is more a 5* hotel than a hospital, … Read the rest

I make myself home in the bilateral section of this wonderful site.
May I introduce myself: German, female, 56, living in China since 2006. Hobbies: painting and riding motorbikes to the beautiful countryside of China. Otherwise I am not sportive; retired architect.
My count down to surgery has started. I will fly to Hong Kong 02.01.2014 and the “theater time” will be 03.01.2014. Bilateral, BHR, same time, Dr. Jason Brockwell.
I am supported through my fantastic partner in life, Thomas.
I am so happy, that I found you all! Even, with the best partner at my side, sometimes it is great to have people like you to talk about the nerves, fear, what it takes to jump to the “other side”.

I got it!!!!!!!! I am on the other side too!!!!!! I was 6 hours “out”, now I am 3,5 Hours awake. Hungry … Read the rest
2nd Anniversary is today! Life is great!
No problems, no restrictions, no funny feelings anywhere…..nothing.
I do what I want to do without thinking if I can do it. In 4 weeks we fly to South Africa to make a motorbike ride on the famous Gardenroad. Three years ago, that would have been impossible.
Thanks Dr. Brockwell for making that possible again!
As with many others who contribute to, and read along, on this site, I was progressively loosing function in one of my hips over several years. By year end 2010 I has just about tried everything that a Hong Kong resident could do to keep me running, playing high level tennis, hiking. I have been a serious skier all my life, but the last 2 years I packed this in due to a lack of confidence as to whether I could get them around when it was steep and deep.
I tried yoga, Japanese deep stretching, magnets, ultrasonic waves directed at my hip, Chinese traditional pummeling. And pills. All of these worked a bit, for a while. Two hours of singles tennis was able to undo any of the benefits of all of the above. By January of this year hill climbing in the Hong Kong hills was becoming more … Read the rest
I am a 43 year old active female and I consider myself very lucky to have had a BHR with Dr Jason Brockwell, in Hong Kong on February 14, 2014.
As some one who never really got injured, my last two years have been a challenge and coming to terms with the fact that I needed a hip replacement at the age of 42 was a very difficult thing for me. On the other side of the procedure, I feel my story may help others who find themselves in a similar situation.
On Christmas eve 2012 I began a run, and after a few steps, I felt an acute ‘crunch’ in the left hip region. I’m not sure if it was painful but it was certainly an intense and scary feeling, but it went away straight away, so I continued the run. I warmed up slowly and even though there … Read the rest
I am 8 weeks post op after having my right hip resurfaced by Dr Brockwell here in Hong Kong with no complications. It was amazing to wake up completely pain free from the surgery!
Prior to my surgery I consulted other surgeons who just tried to convince me that the only “safe ” way to go was to have THR but thanks to your website and trusting my gut instint I went for the BHR and have not looked back.
March 16, 2009 I had my right hip resurfaced here in Hong Kong six weeks ago ( yes we have an excellent resurfacing surgeon here too!). I have a hospital/needle phobia so the whole build up to my surgery day was very stressful. My doctor suggested that I have a chat with the anaethetist about my fears which I dutifully did. I sat and sobbed and poured my heart out … Read the rest
