August 8, 2012 I am from Canada too and I just had a bilateral HR, july 3 rd with Dr Koen De Smet in Belgium. I am very happy with the outcome though obviously still in recovery mode(5 weeks ). It is easy to get to Brussels and then Ghent from Montreal as AC flies non stop there. I also checked out the British drs (Mcminn, Treacy). What I liked about Belgium was the post-op … Read the rest
August 20, 2010 I was sent unceremoniously to the reception Tuesday morning at 7.00 and told “ticket number 20.” Administration was simple but they said I had been booked a room for two but they have none, so I will be in a room for four. I was sent to the room but spent the next two hours walking, as I knew that would be the last for a while.
About 9.00 my leg was … Read the rest
October 5, 2010 I have scheduled a LBHR on Decmeber 15th of this year with Dr. DeSmet. I am excited yet nervous about the 2nd time around.
My left hip is not as bad as my right was 7 years ago, but I decided to go ahead and get the left done anyway. I am excited to see the new Villa in Ghent and hope it all goes as well or better than it did … Read the rest
After two hip replacements in 5 weeks, I will hopefully never know more about hip replacement than I do now. Right now I’m 12 days post-op hip #2. Both were the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing, so may not exactly apply to you. So here’s some of the subtle and not-so-subtle things that you should known.
For me, carrying 25 lbs of recycling to the curb was hurting like hell. If you’re 25 lbs overweight, that’s the … Read the rest
I am almost 5 yrs post op on my right hip. At 6 months post op, I started back with a little running, never intending on getting back to the 20-25 miles a week I had been doing before the pain stopped me. Dr Clarke told me some running is ok but progress slowly and don’t do marathons. It felt so good to run pain free and as time went on I got more confident … Read the rest

I had a C+ installed in my left hip by the fabulous Dr Harold Boyd on 10/10/02 at the ripe old age of 40.
After over 5 years, I don’t even think about having had a hip replacement.
I was playing golf at about 6 weeks & recovered nearly fully by 12 weeks.
Speaking of golf, I play 2-3 times a week & rarely use a cart. My handicap is 5 & … Read the rest
August 23, 2008 I’m on day 13 with a Cormet hip resurface RH from Dr Boyd in Salem OR.Very impressive and experienced team of staff with around 6oo HR under there belt. I did my due diligence before embarking on this resurface by meeting surgeons from OR,WA,CA and Australia.
My recovery seems to be going backwards, I’m relying on crutches, couldn’t imagine a step without them and oxyconitn and viocodin heavily. I was better when … Read the rest
Shelby’s Frist BHR January 2012 Six days post op with the first of two BHR’s and I’m sad to report I’m not going to join the ranks of those who trekked in Nepal during their first week with the new hardware. Today my goals are more modest – three sets of low level PT exercises, a few laps around the homestead with my crutches, figuring out how to put my socks on, knocking out my … Read the rest
I would like to relate my most recent experience with Dr. Peter Brooks at the Cleveland Clinic:
Some Background. I am a 65 year old male who has always been in good shape. Years of running and racquetball began to take their toll about 10 years ago but as long as I felt that my activities of daily life were not severely compromised I continued to postpone the inevitable. That ended this fall when I … Read the rest
First Hip Resurfacing – RBHR May 5, 2010 Dr. Brooks
Here is my story about my hip resurfacing. It starts in October of 2006 when I went to a local doctor in southwest Michigan and had my right hip X-rayed. I wanted to make sure it was arthritis and not something else. He said it was indeed arthritis in my hip and I would have to have it replaced in three to five years. I … Read the rest
I had a RBHR by Dr. Brooks on February 25, 2009 at Euclid Hospital-Cleveland Clinic. It has been about 8 months since my surgery and I divided my experience into categories of chronological order. Before sharing my experience, I would like you to know that I am completely satisfied with the procedure and would recommend Dr. Brooks for anyone considering a hip resurfacing.
Background I was diagnosed with arthritis in my right hip about 5 … Read the rest
I’m about 6 weeks post-op and 41 years of age. I also have a stationery bike in the basement, hooked up to the computrainer. They say to ride without resistance for 6 weeks, but honestly, that is pretty lame. What resistance level did you use and did you work up a pretty good sweat? I need to really work some of the fat I’ve gained in the last six weeks!
My Doc (Peter Brooks) takes … Read the rest
