Hello Hippies, I am home with my new ceramic THR. I came home on Wednesday after having the surgery on Monday.
All I have to say is this surgery was very painful. I passed out in the chair the first night ( I think from the pain) and received 3 units of blood only one my own. I am much better now.
Well we are not sure exactly what went wrong with
Linnett’s Revision Story and Suggestions 2015
You may remember I wrote some years ago with the problems I had firstly with the BHR (the usual pseudo tumours that are so common with this implant) and then problems with the revised hip.
Fast forward a few years, an infection was diagnosed and I had a two stage revision surgery carried out to eradicate the infection. I am now ten weeks post op and seem to be … Read the rest
In the summer from 2005 I went to Belgium for resurfacing from my right hip by Koen de Smet. I was born with hip dysplasia and had a pelvic osteotomy 30 years ago. The last few years I had a lot of pain and couldn’t walk more than 50 meters without a crutch. I couldn’t sleep without painkillers and I feel like an 80 year old woman while I was 46 years on that moment.… Read the rest
M S’s Unsuccessful BHR by Dr. Justin Klimisch and Revision to THR by Mr. McMinn 2011
Approximately 4 years ago I underwent a BHR procedure by Dr. Justin Klimisch which resulted in a disastrous outcome: I sustained significant nerve damage during the procedure to my femoral nerve (lost all function in my quadriceps and hip flexor muscles) as well a suspected traction injury to the whole nerve bundle which runs posterior to the hip resulting … Read the rest
Sarah’s BHR revision 2014
October 4, 2013
I am the proud owner of a BHR (2007 Mr John O’Hara) to my left hip and a Duron (2011Aled Evans) to my right.
I was 39 for my fist HR following an osteotomy the year before which didn’t deliver the anticipated benefit. In short I laid the removed bone back within 3 months!
The reason I am emailing is that my BHR is failing and this seems … Read the rest
Kathryn’s Revision to THR by Dr. Su 2009
April 19, 2009
I had two hip resurfacings – one on each side – within 5 months of each other in 2007. Surgery was at Columbia in NYC with Dr. Macaulay. Used Birmingham device in both.
From the beginning, I had the impression when I walked that the device implanted on my left side (the later surgery) might be “larger” than the one used on the right … Read the rest
Juliet’s Revision of BHR 2002
April 26, 2011
I had a hip resurfacing (Birmingham Hip) on 5/10/02 (left hip). I was 50 years old. Very fit, a keen skier, tall and slim. I had done my research and decided that resurfacing was definitely for me, but the first consultant I went to wouldn’t/couldn’t do a resurfacing but put me on to Mr. Kalesh Desai at Charing X hospital in London. I checked with the hospital … Read the rest

Hip Resurfacing Story
December 11, 2009
I’m 1 week post op and my doc does not want me to walk too much. He is focused more on range of motion issues so I’m doing a lot of stretching (easy stretching not like hard yoga or anything). On the other hand, if I had one, I could have been on a stationary bike the minute I got home from … Read the rest
John P’s Hip Resurfacing Revision to THR Dr. Nicholson 2008
January 9, 2010
I had a problem 16 weeks after my resurfacing with a femoral fracture. I was absolutely devastated at that time and I had to have a revision to a metal on metal THR. I am now one year after my revision and my THR works really well.

JMS’s Hip Resurfacing Revision 2011
March 10, 2011
I have recently had a revision of my BHR to a THR because of high ion levels, even though I had no pain, nor any evidence of pseudotumor. My only symptom was a slipping or clunking sensation deep in the joint. My experience suggests that one can be at risk for metallosis long before symptoms appear, and that patients who have a serious clunking problem that persists … Read the rest
Jeff’s THR Revision after Hip Resurfacing 2011
September 17, 2007
I got my hip resurfaced Tuesday Sept 11th, by Dr. Crovetti in Las Vegas. I am recovering at home, but still need to take at least one narcotic every 5-6 hours. I am planning a web site dictating my whole story. I am so glad I found this web site. I guess I am a regular Joe, since I am still using a walker, and … Read the rest
Jen’s Hip Resurfacing Revision 2005
I had resurfacing done on my right hip with the Wright Conserve Plus in 2004. It lasted about a year before one of the screws snapped and it had to be converted to a THR. Unfortunately, that device didn’t work for me – but its different for every person.
I was born with severe dysplasia of the right hip so I had a lot of work done prior to the … Read the rest
